Overview:
The Candidate will perform, deploy and operate work that pertains to Unix AIX operations (as specifically allocated by line management from time to time in order to achieve optimal work load distribution amongst role incumbents.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform day to day application and user administration and other application specific maintenance.
• Deploy application patches, refreshes, and upgrades in accordance with related deployment and release schedules.
• Maintain backups of the operational application to enable restore in cause of disaster recovery in accordance with the backup and restore regime.
• Perform DR exercises as directed by the BC regime.
• Resolve incidents and problems and escalate 3rd level support requirements to 3rd party support contractor.
• Maintain run books for Unix AIX operations utilising deployment and maintenance guides directives originating from Products and Services.
• Interact with Products and Services to optimise and maintain Unix AIX infrastructure and operations service levels.
• Support Operational Controls processes (Audits, Risk and DR & BCM governance, business processes improvements, performance management, finance and business management)
Knowledge & Qualifications
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of Unix operating systems deployed on AIX in a large enterprise.
• Unix programming skills
• Good proficiency in Microsoft Office application
• National Senior Certificate
• A formal qualification (preferably vendor certified) in the use and administration of Unix and AIX and one or more associated database, transaction, communication and management tools or protocols.
• FAIS Certification
Experience and Competencies
• 3-5 years’ experience in use and administration of Windows Server, VMware and Hyper-V Skills
• Demonstrable track record
• Good understandings of the current state of IT infrastructure, specifically pertaining to Microsoft for X86 servers.
• Basic ITIL exposure
• Affinity for software and programming
