Has anyone tried the ADSL bonded service from them? I'm receiving our router tomorrow and was wanting to know of other people experience.

We're bonding 2xADSL lines together to get 8MB down 1MB up. Should be pretty good seeing as it's over their international fiber that lands in the UK and France.

We are using their 5 port router ,their product is still in the early stages so be prepared for some minor hiccups.Their service is pretty good though .

With regards to speed and latency it great as they use Verizon`s backbone and not through SAIX

Sounds good, we got a 2 port device this morning that I'm putting live in about 30 minutes.

Will let you know how it goes but so far their sales and technical service have been flawless.

So far not so good, plugged in 1 line and all was fine, got 3 times the speed to the UK which is what we wanted. Plug the 2nd line in and it stopped working altogether.

Busy working with a very help engineer on the other end.

Very interested to hear about your experience.

I tried to setup something but had a few problems with their proposal:

1. I need a usage based model, my monthly usage differs from 180Gb the one month to 300 the next. They couldnt provide that.
2. They route through Verizon, which was good, however a few weeks ago they were going through a rough patch which necessitated me having to route over SAIX. In that situation all it meant was a simple switch over on my routers from Verizon to SAIX. If I had been with Verizon I would have had to "hou vas" until the problem was resolved. I do believe they have subsequently taken out an interconnect with IS to avoid these situations reoccuring.
3. Their cost per Mb was considerably higher (understandibly so due to the technology they use), however it made more sense for me to add 2/3 more ADSL lines into my current load balancer and balance (note balance not bond ) and switch when ever and ISP has a problem.

Their service did seem good but they could never get me a 5 port box to test so things just never progressed from there.

Lemme know your experience !

They released a new firmware that seems to have resolved a lot of issues. We were getting line resets every 3 to 4 hours but all that seems to have been fixed.

From Cape Town to London on 2x4mbps lines my results on Speedtest.net are.

4925kbps Downstream
592kbps Upstream

Very happy with this as I manage a VMware/Blade Server farm in Guernsey in the British Channel Islands and now access to the site is extremely quick.

Sounds good... I was very tempted to go ahead with their 5 port solution. However I have 2 x offices and my monthly usage varies from 200Gb to 400Gb. They didnt have a usage based model so I would be paying a hefty price either way.

How many Gb's do you do a month ?

We use around 80 to 100. You can spec how many GB's you think you'll use, for the 2 lines it's around R119 per GB that you spec and then R750 per 5GB bundle there after.

I have been using TC's 2-channel bonding service for good while (since the product's early days).

So far so good.

However, the data quality of one's ADSL lines will still be a contributing factor to the available download speed (even at 4Mbps/line).

Our box is close to the relevant ADSL exchange... so the service performs relatively well (Telkom ADSL permitting, of course).

As an aside: there is a significant technical difference between bonding and balancing of multiple lines.

Balancing is easy to do. There are at least a dozen over-the-counter modems/routers that will do this.

The primary benefit of a bonding solution is a single static external IP address. Bonding is not nearly as simple to accomplish as balancing (specifically in the South African context). Bonding normally requires the consent of the ADSL physical layer provider (i.e. Telkom). Telkom does not consent to ISP's bonding lines together (to do so, would threaten its very lucrative Diginet service). As a result, Technology Concepts uses a far more sophisticated bonding technique than would normally be required in a deregulated environment.

I am not aware of any service available in South Africa (other than Technology Concepts) that does offer an ADSL bonding service.

I know that IS does offer a static IP solution, but that isn't on 4Mbps lines that are bonded into a single address.

Hey guys, the ones that use techco, I see in the posts they you guys are generally happy with them, is this still the case as I want to recommend them to my client?

thanks!

I would ask for a POC first (Proof of concept) as many of Telkoms exchanges are oversubscribed which results in line resets as their modems in the bonded routers are quite sensitive.
