Hey Forum,

My teeth are just nasty. Years of neglect mixed with caffeine and nicotine have played their part.
I'm fairly content with the structure of my teeth but the color is just
I'm in between jobs right now and working as a contractor so I don't exactly have the cash to blast on veneers.

I've only really started becoming embarrassed by them in the last year or two.
I notice that I'm afraid to laugh or smile completely because of the state they are in .
Now I know veneers will probably be the final result to have this sorted, but I just can't afford it right now.

Does anyone have any suggestions to possibly get some temporary fix in place until I can afford the proper fix.
And I'm not talking about baking soda, strawberries, whitening toothpaste, whitening kits etc....I've tried them all.
After doing a lot of research I think my issue is that the enamel has worn down considerably and my dentin is now exposed, which is naturally yellow in color.
Alternatively, if someone could recommend a dentist or practice I could go get a consultation with (Jozi)

It's depressing that something as simple as a smile can make one extremely self conscious and ashamed to smile fully :(
I'm kind of fed up of feeling this way over my teeth and could really do with getting them sorted.
If veneers are the only way to go, it will have to wait till like next year sometime unfortunately.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks forum.

None of the DIY whitening kits really work. You should be able to get a professional bleaching job done at a cosmetic dentist for R3-5k. They do it in the chair, takes an hour or two and maybe two sessions are required dependent on how badly discoloured your teeth are.

Agree with the above. I think that is your best option.

As a matter of interest, what do veneers cost?

I am busy testing activated charcoal powder at the moment. I will report back.

I would assume however that it is naturally quite abrasive, so I don't know if it would be suitable in your situation.

Just had 4 crowns done at R4000 each. Fortunately there were funds in my MSA so Discovery will refund me.

PM sent for excellent dentist in 4 ways.

Oh and you're right it is amazing how being self conscious about your teeth can affect you.

My teeth were strong and good but like OP'S were becoming discoloured. It's worth having them done and I feel great now.

/flashes her pearly whites
