The Telecoms Action Group (TAG) launched a full page ad in the Mail & Guardian in January 2007 to ask for change

Every little bit helps. TAG on their might not have. MyBB neither. But the continuous lobbying by consumers and stakeholders surely accelerated change. Take e.g. MyBB's annual awards. It made me a more informed consumer. If we all remained sheeple and stayed with Telkom, there would have been little changes.

well in my view the point is that a lot of people have made various efforts to cause a change in various ways and fora and the level of success of any individual effort is really impossible to gauge. On the whole I do feel that MyBB and the MyBB community have on the whole made the largest consumer orientated change.

in 2006 Telkom categorically refused to set minimum line speeds on their ADSL products yet called same broadband. Today if your line is the reason for an inability to connect at the minimum speed associated with the line rental you receive a refund. ISPs are telling customers the terms (particularly thresholds) of FUPs (as opposed to AUPs) even if they fight tooth and nail against doing so. Data prices have been continuously reduced and the CoJ have not been able to cover up their misconduct on the billing system. The TAG campaign at the time was massive and lead to a very important discussion in various circles on the future of data connectivity in SA.

Ironically it was Cell C and Telkom that had the biggest disruption i.t.o. mobile data rather than Afrihost.

AFAIK, TAG's only activity was that one ad. Never saw or heard of them again after that.

I can't let this go uncorrected. That R 100 included 50% of Vodacon. You got a special dividend and Vodacon shares.

the market doesn't lie, people do
and the stock price is not a great indicator of health, rather of senitment
in 2007 the share price was over valued and Telkom's valuation of the value of its copper network was far to high.
