Just discovered telegram have a bot API for self-hosted bots that can interact with users and channels in their platform. So cool.

Anyone have thoughts on this? I've written something very basic as a POC. I'm thinking more like auto generated document distribution but the possibilities are endless.

It's pretty awesome and versatile if you're aware of its features and limitations. I'm doing order fulfilment of deliveries using a bot I created. :P

I know it's been done but I'm rolling my own video downloader. I wrote a task based converter so it's pretty neat getting the bot to submit download and conversion tasks then having it send me the download link when done.

While the API is cool, it has a few big flaws depending on which angle you look at it from. It means you have to rely on Telegram not killing the API, that the API is working, and that no one else finds your bot by mistake.

To me if its something only I'd use, I'd use a simple website to host it.

I love the bot due to it being free so all the alerts on our platform to everyone is structured as telegram messages (since Whatsap is proprietary.)

WhatAapp has an API, so don't see the issue with it being proprietary?

Must be recent and there's still a ton of limitations especially the amount of requests and contacts, not sure if anything changed.

Link to API?

I've played around with this, I wrote bots to answer questions using data analytics
and notify me on stock market movements....helluva lot of fun :D

Big fan of telegram

Have been using the Telegram Bot for some very basic home automation (reminders, etc) for probably 2 years now. No complaints really. Have not had a single issue that I can recall.
