Telegram gets voice calls

Telegram has decided to launch voice calls, but it may be a while before we get them. And, unlike the other App, they have listened to users and allowed blocking of voice calls down to individual person. You will be able to block everyone, or only allow contacts or block an individual contact from voice calls.

Why wait? We have it here already. :confused:

Call quality is great. Seems to get better the more you use it.
 
Oh? WhatsApp has been allowing voice calls for years now...

For well over a year Telegram has said they have a voice calling module but won't implement it until the encryption is secure and the quality acceptable, two points they said that don't apply to any of their competitors from their tests.

Now it's here and not even out of a limited testing phase, and the call quality is outstanding and the calls are secure. The wait doesn't bother me.

I have WhatsApp installed anyway for the few randoms who haven't switched to Telegram.
 
The quality is good even on EDGE. It does take a few calls for the system to "work out the bugs". The quality just gets better. I have already set mine to accept calls from my contacts only and have also blocked a few that I don't care to receive calls from. No more midnight drunk callers or people selling/scamming stuff that you get on WA.

The difference between WA and Telegram is that WA doesn't listen to its users. As many people have stated WA has had calling for a long time, but no way of blocking users or people you don't know, or complete blocking for that matter. And many many many discussions on this topic. I think Telegram has been listening to this and given its users exactly what they want.

Telegram also cuts down on the bloat. Currently my WA is sitting at 35Mb and Telegram at 17Mb. This is after I have cleaned out databases and removed media from the folders including the sent folders. Added to that WA has, for a very long time, stated on their FAQ
It is not possible to move WhatsApp into a memory card (SD card) at this time.

We are working on improving our application size and memory utilization. In the meantime, if you need to free up space for WhatsApp, we recommend moving as many other applications and media files as possible to your SD card.

But Telegram works just fine from the SD card. For an App that has over 1 billion users this is not acceptable.
