Hey all

I would like to harden my home LAN using my router (Telkom 100WR) as a firewall /router and will use antivir as my AV solution and then use windows firewall as. I am running Vista 64 bit.

I have looked through the manual and dont seem to find a "guide" on how to set it up as a firewall. Obviously I will have NAT running etc. Is there a guide or tutorial on how to do this. I will mess around with the settings and see what I can do.

Any tips appreciated.

EDIT: Sorry but can an admin move this to the correct section. Posted here by mistake. Thanks.

Unless you're running the router in bridged mode it should be fulfilling its role as a firewall already.

hi there,

I agree for the average user it "should" be okay however I would like to harden my LAN and therefore learn more regarding the networking / security aspect.

I can either get a hardware firewall or attempt to use the router.

Thanks for the response.

My point was that unless you're running the router in bridged mode you are already using it as a firewall.

The obvious things - changing the default passwords etc - should have already been done on day one and afaik NAT comes enabled OTB.

Unless you need it disable wireless - if you need it make sure its got WPA2 encryption enabled with a strong password.

OK , ill disable wireless. Nat is enabled by default - yes. So basically I am secure? I can uninstall my software firewall and jsut use the windows one?
