Hi,

I have a few questions about this service which I am hoping to get answered. This is what I am looking at doing :

OK I just checked out the 2Gb All Access account and I am having a rethink about how I do things... Thanks Yotch

I am now thinking I have my Nashua account which pays for my ADSL line and gives me a stand by Gig to use in emergencies but I may get me a Telkom 2Gb All access account (as much as I hate giving Telkom money but at least I took the line rental away from them!).

Am I correct that this will then usually give me well in excess of 2Gb if needed due to the "collective threshold" policy they have?

After this I will then be switched into the local only cap which is 20Gb on top of this, or is it 20Gb less what you have used already?

My thought process is when this happens then I will let Route Sentry kick in and use this Telkom account for my local and the 1Gb Nashua account for my international! Anyone know what your ISP does or says when you do not use any of your cap in a month? As this will be the case if I don't use all my Telkom in a month.

This will mean costs as follows :

Telkom phone line rental R110 odd
Nashua account with 1Gb and 384k ADSL rental R139
Telkom 2Gb (+) all access with 20Gb local R139

Total R388

As opposed to :

Telkom phone line rental R110 odd
Nashua account with 1Gb and 384k ADSL rental R139
OpenWeb 30Gb local only R130
2 x Additional Gbs from Axxess R138

Total R546

The only thing that worries me with this is the question over the local with Telkom being "promotional"! But as far as I am aware there is no need to sign an account so if it stops, I move!

Now besides the questions I asked there, which unfortunately have not been answered, I was also wondering what the notice period is? If I apply for the Telkom All Access 2Gb service is it month to month? I am probably going to request it gets added to my phone bill (or should I rather go for the credit card option?) but want to know how quick and easy it is to stop if I no longer need the service or decide to go with someone else?

If by "well in excess" you mean roughly double then yes.

AFAIK it is 20gb less the two you have already used.

Cant help with the cancellation notice as I've yet to want to cancel.

Thanks Bwana.

Yes, double would meet my well in excess definition.

So 20Gb less four if I manage to get to 4Gb then?

I have now done an online application and have to admit to being surprised as I did not expect immediate activation! So I am now a Telkom Internet subscriber! :)

This does lead me to another question. Do I get pro-rata'd for this month seeing as though we a 2/3rds of the way through it?

That is possible for the connection part but doubtful for the data.

or

Telkom phone line rental R110 odd
Nashua account with 1Gb and 384k ADSL rental R139
Openweb 2gig Int + 28gig local = R159

R408

OpenWeb 30Gb local only R130 vs Openweb 2gig Int + 28gig local for R159
R29 diff, but you get 2gig international with, and most peeps still get the 30gig extra local :>

Then you're going down the IS route and imho that 28gb local is a hair's breath away from being completely useless.

Yeah, this is something I had looked at but tempted by the Telkom offer of more than 2gb. OpenWeb I know from experience cut you off at 2Gb, or not them but IS.

BTW - that option of yours is r150 more than he's paying now.

This is something else I am wanting to find out first hand. I mainly use the local data for NS downloads and have been annoyed with IS speeds of 4kb/s, if I am lucky, over the last few days. So I am hoping the SAIX NS will be quicker!

PS I think to be fair he was including the phone line rental like I had, but still more.

I saw that and edited my post.

ye well, the Local only 30gig from Openweb is IS too.

So the difference is pretty much the same. 30gig local for R130 vs 2gig international+28gig local of R159. Basically R29 difference :>

Napalm I know what you are saying. It would definitely be better to go the 2Gb way. I think you'll find Bwana was comparing it to the SAIX local though.

Oops sorry I was too quick!! :)

Can you shed some light on the other part of my post regarding NS? Have you used both before?
Yes - concurrently as a matter of fact and the SAIX access seems much more reliable (especially in the evenings).

Cool, while we are on the subject can you please tell me the address of the SAIX NS? I'm sure I could find it if I looked but I am feeling lazy! :)

Do they have more than one address like IS? And also how many connections are you allowed? With IS I have 5, and I split them between the two addresses.
