Well the technie came around again when i called, and he installed my line we had to make minor adjustments to my roof:P to get the line in but its in and man its flippen fast. I love it, no more stupid bluddy vodacom!!!!!!:DDDDDD

Oh no, you should have realised this forum loves Vodacom and hates Telkom. How can you say that their HSDPA at a few R100 per GB is stupid!

Wait until it stops working and Telkom takes 4 weeks to fix it. Can you say internetlessness :D

Or 4 months in my case.

Great to see some positivity about ol' Telkom (ol' -- seeing as i've spent almost half a year independent from them without making the decision to do so?), but seriously now, which techie was so helpful? Managed to get his contact details? I have a cable theft that needs assistance as it's been down for 4 months so far. Help of any kind to get even just my DSL (I believe all that needs to be connected is one copper pair of wire - I WILL PROVIDE THIS AND WHATEVER OTHER COST TO WHOEVER KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING).
There's two cables cut - it's on the poles outside my house - One has a steel-like metal core with about 30 cores/strands of copper next to it, and the other is just one thick cable with like 50 cores in it... blue, green, orange, grey, white, red, etc. I can go check exactly again, and take pictures if need be. If someone can guide me as to which cable would be the one to use, and which colours to play with, i could connect it up myself. I've got a phone i can 'phreak' with to test for dialtone if that will help. Telkom are too lazy to give a ****, so legality isn't an issue, I just want to get my DSL working again.

Cable theft is not my problem. I don't really care if the costs to telkom for replacing the cables outweigh revenue from line rentals and services. I'm a resident of this country, which should provide public/semi-public services, especially POTS telephone and Electricity. I don't want Wireless. I will not settle for second-grade service.
If they can't repair my service, but the facility is there, I will do it myself. Simple.
They wanna take me to court for playing with their property? Let them try, I'll reverse the effect. I'm the one who's lost business from them failing to restore my service in a timely manner. If anyone should be sued, it's them.

try this ...

lines got stolen ... took them 2 months to acknowledge that fact ... then decided to send it to planning for tamper proof cables (must eb some new tech).
Then after another 2 months decided to not replace the lines at all. no forward moving plan or alternatives ... im still without a home phone or adsl , and the only coverage i get is iburst. yes ... it is infact hell.

have you guys resorted to hellopeter? I had a similar incident a while back and Telkom were very quick to get in contact with me after posting my rantings there.

Yep.
When my lines first went down, I had much faith that Telkom would restore them within a few days. A friend then told me that he'd been 6 months without phones when his cables were stolen, and i thought to myself "jeez, 6 months. must have been a unique situation - poor chap". Two weeks went by after i'd called in to report the fault, and nothing had happened, so I put it up on hellopeter. We all know that Telkom doesn't respond, and nobody really seems to care/be able to do anything about the negatives on hellopeter, at least from a Telkom perspective. Anyway, before I knew it was a month... i still had faith they'd fix it promptly enough, but here I am now 4 months in, and when I call their support desk I'm informed that there is no urgency or plan for them to fix it anywhere in the near future. I've come to realize that unless I intervene myself and actually connect my own wires into there, I won't EVER have a Telkom phone again. That's why I asked here for help if anyone has any knowledge on the technical side of these cables, please PM me. I dont want to fiddle around trial-and-error style risking breaking something else, for my neighbours etc, when someone could just help me do it properly...

I actually do have his contact details, i had to get the conduit line cleared to get the line into my roof, i told him i got the joint exposed he came over helped me break the pipe, we threaded the line through, then we spent an hour trying to get it into my kitchen, and finally got it in. And he's told me if i have any problems at all, i must just give him a shout and he'll sort it. Obviously i gave him something extra for his troubles, but its better than having to wait for months and months :)

I guess some people have better luck than others. I waited a week for my line to be installed.
