hi all.

As the title reads, I signed up for telkom 4MB uncapped last month. Everything works perfect EXCEPT every TWO DAYS I need to call Telkom and ask them to recreate my port and refresh my line. Once that is done, my internet works again.

For example. My line is syncing at 6mbs. When I do a download test, my results are 4.5mb/s download and upload 0.5mb/s which is great bu then two days later you do a test and the speeds drop to 0.03mb/s download and 0.01mb/s download. I have logged countless issues with Telkom and had two different technicians have a look and they both say my line at the exchange and home are working perfect. What really gets me is for the two days the internet works like a dream, but on the dot two days later nothing until I call them to recreate the port and refresh the line which as you can imagine has gotten extremely irritating.

Some info:

New installation as of 12 March 2013
I live in Milnerton, Cape Town
My exchange supports up to 10mb/s
I have a Belkin Play Max Router
The same problem happens even when I have set my line to sync at 1mb/s, 2mb/s, 4mb/s, 8mb/s and 10mb/s

Anything else I can try to resolve this? The guys at telkom support are useless a this has been ongoing for over a months and all they can tell me is they can lodge a ticket and then 5 days later get an sms saying the issue has been resolved. I doubt this is a specifically Telkom problem as people i know have had no problems with there connections and as I mentioned earlier, the two days I get of uninterrupted internet connectivity, it is great.

Had a similar type of problem here, internet would be perfect for like two days then suddenly drop to like MAX 10KB/s download until i reset my router.

In my case was just a faulty router as I replaced the router and everything has worked perfectly ever since then. I didn't have to recreate my port at all so maybe you have a different problem.

But I would try a different router anwyay. Goodluck.

Yeah I thought this could be the case. What is weird is this router has never been used (but was purchased almost two years ago which sucks as the warranty period would be over). Its a pretty nice router as well and has alot of great features. What gets me is why would I need to recreate my port and refresh my line to get connected again. I had first tried just restarting the router, but would have the same problems.

maybe doublecheck that line sync stays at 6mb during the problematic periods?

also confirm if its not an ISP issue ( eg instead of telkominternet use webafrica / FNC anyconnect etc - just to confirm if its not something with your account).

sounds like a line problem though....

I've got a similar problem, though not as frequent. Once a month or so.

What routers are you using?

I've got the Telkom DO WiFi one (can check model later at home). I've also got an older POS that I could try if it is indeed the router that's causing ***...

You are lucky as my problem happens consistently every 2 days for the last month after I got the service. I am using a Belkin Play Max (was one I purchased myself). I have another older Belkin N150 laying somewhere in the house that I might use and see - only problem is the specs are not as great as the one I am using now but I suppose it will only be for 2 days to see if it is the router giving me problems.

Yeah I am going to sign up with the Webafrica 5gig free deal (if that is still available) or any other you can recommend, and see how it goes. The line stays at 6mb/s (can confirm again in 2 days  ), well it says so in my router info page. Hoping it is not a Telkom problem tho as there new services (the T1 Uncapped I think it is called), really is great ans also there is no shaping ect during the day or night - well at least thats what i have been told and so far havent noticed it (besides the 2 day problem I have).

Telkom have said previously it could be congestion at the exchange.

I'm on Clareinch Exchange- where are you?

Well I am in Milnerton so I think this would be the exchange: http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/exchange/WMEO

Whats weird tho is my exchange supports 10mb/s but they state only 4mb/s. Why would it consistently slow down to 0.03mb/s every 2 days? I would understand if it was random times, but literally every 2 days the internet is almost dead...
