Has anyone had experience with this router ? Good or bad ? Genuine opinions would be appreciated. ( We all know Telkom is evil, so don't start of with ' its a Telkom product, so it sux ' or whatever )

I tried to trouble shoot one for a friend. As I understand it (and from the way it looks) I think it's actually a rebranded Billion, but with Telkom specific firmware which removes some of the functionality. Technically the modem should be fine, (I run a Billion 7202G and it's great) but the Telkom interface is not great. I couldn't find the link up/down speeds for example, or run any of the diagnostics.

If you're considering it, I rather suggest you buy a Billion 5102 off the shelf.

the 5100 is nice!!! - its very very easy to setup!

u access the router via 10.0.0.2

password:admin

go to wizard setup > mode:routing > encapulation: PPPOE > Multiplex: LLC
VPI: 8 VCI 35 > Username: ***** password ***** > auto ip address >
nailed up connection > sua only > then u just save....

u then do th diagnostic test...4 out of 5 will password, loopback will fail

once that has done that - u should be all good

would you type in www.whatismyip.com and a number will appear there. Something like 165.165.*.* just let me know what that number is ;)

On a serious note, if you set your router to handel the PPPoE connection and even if you don't change your routers user name and password as a priority. Account hacking is soooo easy and especially as many people do not change these default settings!

sure..im is 127.0.0.1 :p

u can hack into my loopback address!

I guess for a non-technical person the Telkom option is desirable, because you have them to act as your support, although you'll get charged for it. as I said the physical device should be pretty good.

lies!!

I've had the Marconi 4-Port Router. I had a hard time understanding how to configure it, and when I eventually got it working - it died on me a couple of weeks later. It was faulty!

Then, I got the Telkom (Billion) ADSL 5100 Router. It works great in my opinion! And it's easy to use! I'm happy with my ADSL 5100 Router.
