Hi everyone.

The Question: Does anybody know someone that could speed up telkom? We applied for ADSL access in our township and no response.

The Situation: We live about 20km outside Lichtenburg in a village. There is a need for internet access. We are covered by ONLY VODACOM 3G. No MTN, No CellC, No 8TA. There is one wireless service provider charging R1200 pm 512kb line capped at 20Gig. (I thought Telkom was a rip off)
There is about 58 house holds excluding the factory itself.
We had a survey done and about 15 people applied to telkom for ADSL acess. About 7 declined since they have Vodacom data contracts. Some did not recieve applications and were un aware.

The Problem: Telkom needs to upgrade the exchange or Pa Bx server only as I was told by a Telkom Technician. All the phone lines from the houses are in, and working to the factory. From the factory there is a microwave link to town that is sufficient.

I know lots of people complain about Telkom and how their ping is high (48). I try gaming on 3G (ping never below 160). But all we want is ADSL access.

If there is anybody that could assist us please do.
Thanks alot

There is not much cable theft here. The village to the factory is wired for years now ( phones working ) +-2km to the current PA BX server. From there its transmitted via microwave link to town. From Lichtenburg to the next tower also microwave. Not much wire to get stolen if ever.

I feel for you. Unfortunately, there is almost no way to speed it up. telkom is like one big lucky packet.

I truly admire your technical know-how. Its actually amazing, and I truly salute you!

I now hear a rumor Telkom wants to install a WCDMA tower instead of upgrading the PA BX server. They do not want to provide cheap internet noooooo they want to SHAFT us with expensive internet. WE HAVE 3G ITS TOO EXPENSIVE WE WANT ADSL.
Cant see its going to be more expensive to just upgrade the exchange.
