Hi I'm really not clued up on anything regarding fibre etc. But we have a telkom Adsl line we're we currently reside,but will be moving to a place with fibre? Can we still use our adsl, do I need to get an adaptor of some sort? Is fibre more expensive.. Can our contract be "upgraded " maybe?

Telkom Adsl contract to fibre, help, tips please.

Hi Ametjie. You would have to check if you have fibre available at your new residence. Easiest might be to use this link: https://www.webafrica.co.za/fibre/#connectivity-address-input
Enter your new address and it should tell you what is available.
Once you know what is available then you can go from there. There are a LOT of ISPs (Internet Service Providers) out there, you can contact any of them and ask them for a quote on whatever you require (based on what is available at your address).
Once you have checked the map and know what is available at your new address post it here and we can go from there.

The telkom Homeunlimited package (if that is what you are on) is the same price be it ADSL or Fiber, you would need to contact telkom and tell them that you are moving and want to switch to the fiber package.
If you do not need a voice line I would take this as an opportunity to cancel with telkom and signup with a ISP such as cool ideas or supersonic. They offer better performance, pricing and support.
If you choose another ISP other than ones mentioned be sure to ask about fair usage policy, Webafrica, Afrihost, Mweb, Axxess all have limits that when you reach them your performance is going to drop, telkom has one as well but its very high so I doubt many people reach it.
Regardless of what avenue you choose to do an install of some sort will be needed.

If you're on 4Mb/s ADSL and move to fiber the lowest speed will be 10Mb/s and the homeunlimited package only increases by R44.

Make sure you tell the agent to cancel your ADSL as soon as the Fibre has been activated. Also ask for copies of any transaction with the agent (email etc.) Take note of the agent's name and make notes of the dates.
Follow up on payment and chose a day when the transfer must happen. Telkom will charge you for the ADSL as well as the Fibre for months to come.
I had to call the new sales, tech services and accounts department to cancel amounts incorrectly charged etc.
And no - they don't send emails or any confirmation of things being done. You will have to call them all the time.
