Ok, Ive heard forumites running away from the Telkom ADSL contract....but is it just a "anti-Telkom" stance or are there valid reasons.

I have been under a Telkom ADSL contract for 4 years now and I can honestly not see what all the fuss is about. I got my free modem, and as the prices have gone down so has my contract bill. After my first 2 year contract I was contacted again to offer me a new contract, and they would throw in a wireless router. I accepted and nothing has changed, bill has just been getting less and less as the annual price review kicks in.

A few months back they phoned me again offering to convert me to a cheaper option of broadband, the DO3 package and Closer. There were no penalties and my bill came down by a further R200:D.

I have had quite a reliable service and have only been offline twice in the 4 years....and never more than 1 or 2 hours.

What are the issues with this contract lark?......I've had none.:)

There is no need to sign a contract with them. All your contract got you was a free router, which you could have got if you just opted for the self-install.

You don't get a router anymore when you do a non contracted self install...well I didn't.

You do, just got one yesterday for my sister-in laws installation in Durban

REAAAAALLY! I ordered the 384 line 2 weeks ago, did the self install and are using WebAfica as ISP and I was told that I cannot get a free modem. UNFAIR!

No I was told that the Telkom router is R899.

I just quoteD a dude on another post regarding router price, I have no idea how much one costs, I just know I didnt pay for one. I pay exactly the same amount as someone without a contract (on Telkom ISP) and dont have to outlay on a router
