HOwlong does Telkom take to install ADSL lines now in Goodwood, Bellville, Parow, and surrounding area's ???

Depends more specifically on your exchange afaik. I would recommend going to a telkom shop as this will be quicker. I went now and asked for a self-install, and was told it would take 2-3 weeks

Self install.. Does that mean u actually get the stuff from them.. and u get instructions how to install it yourself ?? and howcome 2-3weeks??? I they tell you how to do it... U can do it within a hour or two ? not so ???

Self install is just a piece of paper telling you how to set up your ADSL modem; they still have to connect your copper line to the DSLAM at the exchange.

they have a massive backlog (in some areas, i believe). 2-3 weeks is pretty good compared to some who had to wait months. they have to schedule time for a techie to come out, connect the copper and test the line.

I once ordered ADSL(this was last August) , waited 2 and a half months.. (even with me calling them on a regular basis.) After that period,, about a week before i should have gotten my line. They told me, my exchange is being upgraded.. Upgrade will be done and finished ruffly by January.. and my adsl will be installed not later than march. lol (that was 2005) (i just decided i'm not waiting that long..)

Well i ordered on the 1 March 2006. They told me within a week or two. Den told me only once exchange upgraded, which wud be by 28 May. Den it was 28 June. Now they cant even tell me anymore. They say i must just wait till they get hold of me. So i tink im gonna give up too. I just feel sorry for all those poor businesses out there with no internet access. Must cost them a crap load.

At my dad's house i've been told to wait for the 23rd of August and I signed up 30th of May I believe

I've been waiting 6 weeks now and still on the 48 hr Port asign saga...

I'm moving down the street in Wynberg. I need to transfer/install ADSL at the new residence. What would people suggest to get it in by August?

I will cancel old account and order a self-install for the new residence that already has an active phone line installed in it.

I ordered my ADSL on the 28th March 2006 and they told me it would take 4-6 weeks. Today is the 3rd of july and has already been over 3 months. I keep phoning Telskum and they just keep telling me they are waiting for "port allocations". When I ask them what that is, they say they have to upgrade the exchange in that area. I'm sick of waiting this long! How long do they take to upgrade the exchange!? Months? Years? Maybe they don't even have a plan to upgrade the exchange!? I'm sure some other people have this problem!? Can't we complain to somebody? Action this somehow? Sue Telkom for misinforming/misinformation?

Oredered 25 May, still waiting....

Feels good to have ordered end 2004.. Still had to wait abt a month, but atleast it's not as bad as things seem today.. I feel for you guys :(

u guys talkin about ADSL...

i ordered a normal phone line, they told it will be installed in 2 weeks, that was last week. Phone them again they said another 3 weeks time...

I ordered ADSL on Wed, 5 July. They called me today and said it will be installed on Fri, 14 July. 9 days... not bad! Now I just have to wait and see if they actually show up on Friday. :)

UPDATE:
I bought a NetGear router today, set it up, bought some Gigs from WebAfrica.. and tried to load a website, and surprise surprise it worked. So the technician doesn't even have to come out; I did a self-install. I then called the order tracking people, they removed the R404 installation cost from my bill and that was that.

So all in all I had a very pleasant experience with Telkom from start to finish; ordered ADSL on 5 July and my connection was active 7 days later. Great stuff!
