telkom adsl installation order

Hi Guys,
Just thought I'd share my experience with telskum in getting my adsl line installed. It took them about a month since I firsted ordered the line to come and install it. They said they would come yesterday but didn't and they didn't even call to say when they planned on pitching up. So big surprise when they did not pitch yesterday . I was very surprised when the guys pitched today of all days (obviously they did not call first... that would mean some customer service). The techies were kewl and got me setup in no time. However the telkom service is appauling to say the least. None of them want to take resposibility for coming and installing the line. I had to phone 3 ppl yesterday before I eventually gave up. The last person was very upset that I had called her, but I didn't care and made it her problem . But that did me no good as all she could do was tell me to sit on my hands and wait
Anyways ... just thought I'd vent a bit
Now just have to get my modem and account and give it a try

Well luci at least they showed up. My installation was due 25/05. He called me the next day to say that my line needed some repairs. Should not take more than a day or two (he said). Cool I thought, I waited 5 weeks already. What's 2 more days?

Well it's another f***ing 3 weeks later, and after finally calling virtually every day for the last week or so, I was finally told that my line had been fixed in the meantime (on 14/06, 3 weeks for a half-day job) and the installation is scheduled for 21/06. I can tell you I'm not getting my hopes up...if it comes it comes ...if not it'll be another few phone calls ....and....another crate of beer this patient oNe .

Anyway I'll be going for a 30GB Axxess account as soon as my installation is done.

I have got an axxess 10GB account .. am thinking of mayb getting the 59.co.za 30GB account ... will c how things go ... I signed up with axxess on the 17th and already I have used 4GB ... don't think that 10GB is gonna last a month for me
I signed up for the 192 package but everytime I connect I get a 320 connection .. is that right?

320 kbps sounds more like 384 line to me. Check your next bill

However sumtimes it takes telkom a month or so to set ur bandwidth properly

If you're already with Axxess, just upgrade to their 30Gb offering to save yourself the admin and service experience grief - it's worth the R20 difference, and will be worth even more if you do have future difficulties, given your record as a loyal customer...

I've just been checking out the price of HomeDSL192 with the Axxess.co.za 5GB a/c [a friend wants to get ADSL - a pity Telkomonopoly's site has changed & the thing to check if his exchange is DSL enabled aint working now...], and it comes to R636.05 if my figures are correct for 2005-08-01...

On a related note, I do see a new business opportunity for entrepreneurs - we could pay people to sit on the phone all day with 10219 and bug them until our ADSL gets installed...
