Telkom ADSL Installation Special

Just to let people know, we are moving and ordered a new telephone line with ADSL. Telkom have a special on at the moment where they don't charge you for the installation so the whole deal is free. I am not sure if the same will apply to adding ADSL to a line but you can always do a self install there and get it for nothing anyway.

yep, since last year - here's what to do to qualify for free line install / upgrade to adsl

1. Call telkom and tell them you want a line installed - DO NOT MENTION ADSL at all
2. Once the Telkom tech has finished the install and left your home, and the line is active call telkom again and have them upgrade the line to ADSL.

should be now done with little fuss and at no cost to you. you can then choose your call tariff plan (ie Closer 1,2,3 etc) or if you don't want the line for voice calls at all, have it stripped down to the cheapest tariff plan (R131 p/month I think).

Just remember, R131 (Telkom voice line rental) + R152 (384 Line - Cheapest) will be the standard should you choose to take your adsl line rental via Telkom. The voice line rental is compulsory at the moment. Oh, and those prices are excl VAT.

I would have thought while applying for a Telkom voice line you could inform the service agent you want ADSL too, and simply perform a self-install and avoid paying for the install costs levied by Telkom and provide you with DSL sooner rather than later. Do you know if this would work?

No need. They are doing both the normal line and the ADSL part for free.

I had my telephone line installed 2 weeks ago and they told me that they will be charging me the installation fee (+/- R430 if I remember correctly). Hopefully they lady on the phone had it incorrect and the special will apply to me as well.

2. If you specified ADSL self-install and they bill you, dial 10210 and log a dispute. Did a techie come to your premises?

No we didn't move. So did this only apply to existing customers moving house?

They did not charge me for the ADSL though, since I specified that I wanted to do the self install.
