Am new to the forum, and was wondering if I could could get some input regarding my ADSL issue. Recently signed-up for 1GB wih Telkom, and opted to buy a Billion W40 modem from MWEB as it was going quite cheap. Since then I have not been able to connect to the internet. The DSL light on the modem burns solid green. However the "internet light" on the modem burns red continuously. My ADSL line was verified. username and password issued but still no banana. Even went as far as taking the modem back to MWEB to have it tested. Works fine at the shop. Telkom's technical line just tells me to leave it on, and it will start working in an hours time? Been like this since Monday.

Please Help.

im not sure but Doesnt mweb lock their routers/modems to only work with Mweb Accounts?

try lend one from a friend to test if it works.. or go buy a cheap one...

Hey there AllyA

Firstly the Mweb W40 was originally a locked router so it could only work with MWEB usernames. If you have a newer version of the router it shouldnt be locked to MWEB (ICASA ruling). the best way to check this is to log into the WEB interface of the router, you can do this by opening you web browser and going to 192.168.1.254 and the username and password are both "admin". once logged in, click on the WAN link in the menu on the left of the screen. look at the username field, if it is broken into 2 parts meaning a text box, then an @ sign and then a drop down box, it means the router is still locked to MWEB, if it is just a text box and you can type your entire username into it, tehn it is unlocked.

if it is locked you can contact MWEB and get the unlocking firmware from them and if it isnt locked then you will have to verify your username and password with Telkom.

Hi guys. Thanks for the input. Just spoke to the wife, technical chap from telkom managed to sort out the issue.
Shes' nto quie sure what he did, but something surrounding the username and password not tie-ing up on the telkom side (Telkom still seeing the MWEB UN & P).
Anyway all is sorted!! And yep, the router is not locked.
