Telkom ADSL online application

Just a quick one guys:

My dad wants to jump onto this uncapped bandwagon from 3G. I found this page that you can use to apply for you ADSL. My only query is that on the deal type there are Standard, 24 Month renewal and Inclusive as options. Would the Standard option be a month to month option?

I can go into a Telkom shop and apply for it, but don’t want to waste my time if I can do it online. Only concern is that I don’t want my dad to be stuck with a 24month contract.

I had the same concerns about the 24 month contract as prices will continue to tumble. And just got my 4mb line setup.

Firstly the 24 month contract does not apply on the lowest speed line it does apply to the 512 and 4mbps line. And it only applies to the 512 and 4mbs if you include the telkom router in the deal, Macro/Incred Connection/Stax/Dion Wired all sell routers from 900 to 1400although we still pay to much for hardware in SA.

Does your dad have a telkom phone line?

1. Yes - Ask for the adsl line firstly - ask for a self install (saves 700 rand) if you are comfortable setting up the router details - or you are willing to RTFM - or do a google search.
2. No - Needs to apply for the Telkom line - can be done monthly and the adsl line at the same time - or if you are tech savvy as for a telkom line first and then when that is setup ask for the adsl line after and do a self install

I dvise that you go to a telkom direct shop and apply there. Get the agent's name, contact number/email address and an order reference number before you leave the shop. This way you always have a person (the same one) if you encounter problems.
