Have been having problems with my Adsl line since 22/12/2011 and is without adsl for anything between 4 and 16 hours a day. I live in Centurion and every time there is a thunderstorm in a radius of 30km the adsl goes down and as this mostly happens late afternoon and early evening there are no technicians as it is after-hours and i have reported this fault on a daily basis to 10210 and cant get this problem resolved,I have also emailed Telkom customer care without any joy.
I just want to know whether there is someone that could supply me with a name of a senior person at Telkom who I can contact to resolve this month long problem.

Good luck with getting this sorted, been having similar problems, line goes out during storms and starts running huge errors for the next couple of hours. by the time it gets to the techie the line is clean.

I'd been trying to sort it out for over a year, eventually a techie actually pitched at the house and I explained exactly what was happening and he changed me out to another pair now a year later, I'm back at the same thing. I even escalated to CEO and that did nothing.

keep reporting and wait until somebody actually comes out.

Sounds like you have a dry joint somewhere on your cables between your jack and the MDF. This allowing water to come into contact with the copper cable...

When reporting this fault you need to be very specific and mention that it is an intermittent fault. Also, report your VOICE line faulty, saying that for intermittent, extended periods of time the crackle on the line is so bad that you cannot make calls and that after any rain your service is dead. By reporting an ADSL fault you are giving them an easy out. They run an automated test after your fault report and if it tests clear (which it would as the rain has stopped) they will close the fault.

When a techie eventually arrives, ask him/her to check from your jack back to the exchange, i.e. open the jack and check the wiring first, then check the dropwire from your house to the pole (if it is overhead), then check the cable from the pole to the street cabinet and then check the cable from the street cabinet to the MDF in the exchange.

I have the same damn problem. I got the 3 month trial from telkom, the first few weeks it worked nicely, but then I would get very regular disconnects ( my dsl looses sync ) and it takes ages for it to sync again, only to work for like 5min -1hour then it happens again and again.

Ive been struggling for weeks for telkom to send out a technician to test my line at my house and not from their side. And still no one has showed up!!

Everytime I call them I tell them my line is dropping and is working intermittently and that I cant even get a dial tone on my phone sometimes. Phone line is noisy even with everything unplugged. I just recieve an SMS the next day after reporting the fault to tell me my line has been tested and that they could not find any faults.. wtf?!

It is going on like this into a loop, I dont know what to do. I cant even get a tech to my house for weeks...

I guess I have to keep on calling them waiting for 30 min for one of those A--holes to pick up,tell me the same routine crap and hope that they send someone out one day??

telkom has the WORST service ever!

Sounds like the problems i had for a month, trees had grown around the cable and exposed the wires which were coroding. Wish we had checked that first instead of doing uneccesary(how the hell do you spell this word) testing for weeks, although the techie that came round should have done it the first time i guess.

Thanks MickeyD, the funny thing is , i stay in Centurion and if no rain falls by me and i can hear the thunder faintly in the distance the ADSL line goes dead without the storm ever coming anywhere near us. was without internet again since yesterday 13.00 up to 12.30 to-day. technicians where here and said the were going to change the DSLAM at the exchange, which they operantly did now and that is why i was without internet so long so don't know how long this will stay up ,but did a speed test and it is very slow download at 33 and upload at 19 that is on a 1mbs line.

I have a similar problem when it rains, but after a hard reboot on the modem, the ADSL link comes up. This does not work all the time though.

Are you perhaps on the TEDO03 Exchange, its congested and might be your problem with throuput
