Hi there. I nned to know something please. I had my telkom line installed yesterday, applied at Axxess for my adsl connection (10 days they said). I want to use my old Telkom ADSL router, and when I type 10.0.0.2 in my browser, the following error occurs:::Web Server Error Report:
Server Error: 401 Unauthorized

Access denied

/doc/flowctrl.htm

Can someone help. Must the ADLS line be active?? I just want to see my settings of the router solong. I know I cant browse yet! Just need to know if I can get on my router without being online yet.
Thanx

What are you using to try to access the router ???
if internet explorer .....go to tool ....internet options ....delete temporary files . history . cookies etc.
restart IE and type router address
or router is cooked

Does the router give you an IP address? (DNS)
Are you on the same range?

Have you tried the Off / On routine? and tried again?

Hi there
Thanx for reply. Okay, my system as follows:Win7, Firefox browser, my lan cable plugged into my pc and onto router (telkom)
Must I configure something else now, or must I wait till my line is active. But I'm sure that a person can go onto your router, right?
Settings etc...

What lights are "on" ?

Also could help to reset your router. There should be a reset switch at the back of the router. Might need a paperclip to stick in the hole and hold it in for 30 seconds.

10.0.0.2 is not always the right IP, e.g. mine is 192.168.1.1

Hi there. Light on are: "DSL LNK-Blinking green", and "DSL ACT-Blinking green", and shows solid green on my port nr "1"
Remeber I haven't got ADSL yet, waiting for Axxess. Just need to see if my Router at least works. I was used to type in 10.0.0.2 when I had Winxp some years ago. Will that change, being different windows??
Resetted also, nothing happens

Oh OK... Without ADSL you should still be able to log into your router.

Do you have another ethernet cable that you can use?

You should be able to access the router even if you dont have access to an ISP
Try a different browser

Hi again.
I use my LAN cable that I use to play lan with. Does that work. I used my second shorter lan cable as well, but no luck?

Hi
Okay, I stopped stressing, and thought by myself why not trying it on my XP Laptop, guess what, IT WORKS. 10.0.0.2, and there are my settings!! NOW, why does Win7 not see the router????
The router is as follows: Marconi Telkom router, with firmare CX82xxx_4.1.0.9, March 2004.
Please tell me that it is only a setting or two to change. I phoned the guy at Axxess, my NEW service provider. He told me that I must get NEW router.....
Well, at least I know it is not COOKED my router.

You do NOT have to get a new router and, if you do, you do NOT have to get it from axxess. They will give you a new router BUT tie you into a 24 month contract.

Do NOT tie yourself into a contract. You will regret it.

Secondly; do NOT sign your line over to axxess. Again, you will regret it.

Hi there. Why not Axxess?

If the modem router work's use it unless you want to buy a new one

Hi there. Why not Axxess?
I'm not saying that you must NOT use axxess as an ISP.

I'm advising that you keep the ADSL line in your own name.
I'm advising that you do not sign a 12/24 month contract.

2012 is going to be a year of change in the ADSL market. By signing a contract you will not be in a position to swop over to other ISPs at short notice and without paying any penalties and having to re-apply for an ADSL line in your own name (all over again).

EDIT: this is not an anti-axxess stance... it applies to ALL ISPs.

Yes, but on my PC with Win7 it shows it doesn't find the router. Is there settings I must change or what?

I am not to clever with windows 7 but it is normally the browser that stops you accessing the router had the same problem with my one machine that is on windows 7 . may be some one that knows better can answer your question

On the start menu, type cmd in the search box, enter.
Command prompt will open, type:
ipconfig /all
Copy and Paste the results back here.
