If somebody could help a newbie out I would appreciate it. I was given an ADSL router and have signed up for 384 HomeDSL. Unfortunately I don't know how to configure it when I get hooked up. I have a landline at the mo, but the Telkom store said that I have to pay for installation of R404 if I want the techie to set up my ADSL router for me. Is there a way to reset all the settings? Does it have some sort of web interface or only telnet?

help....

Shouldnt be to difficult - it should have a reset button somewhere on the exterior.

It would help us if you could give us the make and model of router you have ?

and has your line been ADSL 'enabled yet' ??

- plenty

old router pots?
ok here is how. (im not sure how much u know so I will give the dummies guide)
open internet explorer
in the address bar type 192.168.10.200
username: root
password: root
(it should be on the quick setup protocol)
select PPP over Ethernet ( RFC 2516 )
click next
leave router ip alone ( unless u gonna change it for your network )
idle time out watcher disabled
ATM VC parameters
status enabled
vpi/vci 8 35
LLC
click next
type in your username and pass
click next
it will then show all the information that you had input.
click finish
save then restart

oh and if u cant get connected do this.
on the left click onto monitor >> ADSL status >>>
on the right click
runtime device testing status

u should give you a window showing ADSL status.
a popup will appear giving PPPOE status information.
if it says link status: connected (then u are connected)
Failed (then its the wrong user details)
sent_PADI (then you should log it because you will be getting a 678 error, you will not be able to c the ESR)

Thanks Guys. Working. Now I wait for the "big day" to be connected up.:o

Thanks to GangStarr for taking time to share his knowledge on this forum to help others!

I recent got one of these Telkom modems and this old post provided the info I needed to access this modem and set it up correctly.

Thanks.
