Hi community,

So I've just moved into my new house in Cape Town and have activated the ADSL line with Telkom. I did however choose the self install option as I do like my money and don't want to get ripped off by Telkom.

I already have my Billion ADSL modem/router so just want to know how to install that? Does it complicate things that I've signed up with OpenWeb (ISP) to provide me with data?

I've searched for this thread online on many forums however they all quite dated so was wondering if the process has changed? Could anyone provide a step by step guide as there's no "Telkom ADSL Self Installed for Dummies" in the book stores!:p

Thanks a lot in advance,

From a much appreciated tech noob!

You didn't mention which billion router you have.

ADSL setups are usually quite straightforward nowaday especially if you get your router in SA , as a lot of the routers are more or less preconfigured.

1. Connect your computer to the router using the cable provided or via wifi (look at manual for default ssid and password)
2. Browse to the router ip address and login using the login details provided in the manual (or sometimes on sticker at bottom of router)
3. Change the Wifi SSID , the ADSL username and password, the admin password of the router

The router might reboot after you do each of these things.

Pretty strightforward

I'm not sure of the exact model, will have a look when I'm downstairs in the morning.

I dont know if it makes a difference but I'm actually already using the modem for my iBurst internet (is compatible for ADSL though) which is expiring at the end of the month. So the Wifi SSID and password are set but is it different for the ADSL settings?

LOL! My bad - I thought you were linking to a downloadable doc. Better upgrade my glasses ;)
