Telkom ADSL soft-cap and gaming

Proof will be in the actual pudding as gamers experience the throttling.

Since I am the only dompeldrol that commented on this thread in January '13, let me give some feedback:
It is my second month back on ADSL after 2 years on 8ta; I am using the Do Basic package: 5GB Softcap, 1Mb/s ADSL.

To be honest, I have abused the account quite a bit with my usage WAY over 100% and my experiences with gaming (PS3 Only) and other services are as follows (local pings are sub 40ms, international sub 300ms):
GT5 - No issues apart from racing on 5-Bar hosts. I get disconnected if there is lots of chaos on the track, particularly during crashes on NASCAR races. Racing on 3-Bar hosts with High Quality voice is stable, 4-Bar hosts with High Quality voice has some occasional lag
MW 3 - I honestly cannot see any difference when playing Soft-Capped. No lag no matter what, unless the server is crappy.

I setup a bridged PPPoE connection directly from the PS3 which allows me to still download News Server binaries from by laptop at around 40-45KB/s without impacting gameplay. A connection test from the PS3 notes a 403Kb/s download and a 420Kb/s upload speed. Note this is while my laptop is busy downloading at 43KB/s.

Torrents, on the other hand, are SLOW. If it starts to download it typically peaks at 20KB/s, averaging around 5KB/s. YouTube runs at the throttled speed.

Anything else you need me to test?
