hi all

i remember a thread awhile ago something about that telkom might be upgradeing the ppl that are on speeds of adsl up one but i cant find the thread, does anyone have any updates on this? or was telkom just blowing gas.

I haven't seen anything recently. Personally, I don't think there is anywhere to go beyond the 4M (since I recently got it myself)....

Web pages don't load noticeably faster with it than with a 384k or 512k connection (not 'regular browsing' although there are times when bursts of speed hit 400kB/sec), and I don't see P2P speeds exceed around 300kB/sec (again, in bursts) which means that we are not reaching the limits of the 4M line speed. Sure, for pure local transfers, we reach line speed, but I don't have very much local usage...

If they make 512k the min and upgrade 384k customers to it, and upgrade 512k customers to a 1M connection, that would be great. I just don't see anything faster than 4M coming in at this point. Perhaps an upgrade on the uplink speeds would be beneficial too, e.g. 384/256k, 512k/384k, 4096k/1024k, etc.

This is all just my opinion though...

iam quite happy with my 384 i used to do alot of p2p on my 56k lol but now i cant and i havent for a very long time for over a year actually i do miss it alot not just the files and such but the people the community ect but i spend more time browsing around and reading and researching techie things now then i ever did before never thought i'd stay up this early hours reading things lol but i wont complain if they deside to bounce me up to a 512.

i like ur sig idea which makes me think i need a sig lol

Why'd you cut down on the P2P AFTER getting DSL?! ;)

I reckon that a 384k is decent enough if all you do is read news sites. You can always optimise your experience by using Firefox, and extensions like Adblock and FasterFox to ensure that your pages load quick and advertisement-free. Obviously, if your budget can take it, you could upgrade your line speed but as I said, there isn't much of an improvement in browsing speed. Then again, it's only ~R260/month more for 4M and you are probably not spending much on bandwidth... :D

Yeah, signatures are cool. Might as well put in info relevant to the forum :)

"nzb"?

Nice signature. Looks pretty familiar. Maybe to de-emphasise it a little, make it one font size smaller :D Oh and you have a typo in it ("dail" should be "dial") ;)
