Seen a lot of postings about how users will support the SNO simply to screw Telkom. But guys, you can do it now. There is a choice of ADSL providers already. Why not move your ADSL to an Internet Solutions or UUNET based ISP? I bet that most users on myadsl.co.za still go through SAIX ADSL. The change would be easy, and also aid with the peering link problem.

Something to think about
 
Just ask your ISP if they supply ADSL through SAIX, IS or UUNET (the only three at the moment) and if SAIX, choose a non-SAIX based ISP
 
The main breakdown of most ppls ADSL costs is line rental. Which u have to pay Telkom no matter which ISP u support. As long as Telkom controls the local loop only the consumer is getting screwed.
 
Just a pity we still have to pay Telkom for the line rental... there we have no choice! :(

As far as the ISP's are concerned, there are many, and I think the members here have made that choice!

yes, you won't get around the line rental issues, but at least you can start boycotting their 1st November pricing, hard-capping, etc. End of the say the bandwidth revenue of SAIX goes to Telkom. At least it's something quick and easy to change now.

ettubrute - I disagree, I reckon most ADSL users on myadsl.co.za go through SAIX. Especially the ones using the 30gb accounts
 
In fact, if there are any myadsl admins watching, it would be an interesting poll
 
I don't want to use this as a forum to push our own services, the aim is really to hurt Telkom and not make money. But I'm sure you can post a thread asking for IS-backed ADSL ISPs
 
Well, it would be interesting to get a list of all the ISPs and who they are backed by.

I wouldn't mind see this list so that I can shop around.
 
question: isn't SAIX the most reliable of all the connections? .... I would move away from telkom, but not at the expense of the 'so called' line quality
 
I think you maybe mean stable as in line stability? No way to get around that, the actual line is always Telkrap. Ok, off the top of my head (but confirm with the ISPs), IS ISPs would be:

Can offer a special of R240 (incl) per 3 gig account for myadsl users. Yes, I know this is not cheaper than SAIX, but at least you will be on the IS backbone with 80% of the content.

That's off the top of my head. But confirm with the ISPs and shop around. Don't care who you use, as long as its not SAIX :D

Sorry but I disagree.

If I can get it Cheaper through SAIX I will, I'm not doing myself out of 27Gb and R40, just to use a different backbone, when my main use is the SGS servers on SAIX anyway.

Yes Telkoms causing a lot of the problems, but UUNET and IS control the costs on their backbones and could offer some interesting options in terms of local access packages, where they don't necessarily have to use Telkom bandwidth.

I want to see them get smart instead of just whine basically.
 
The 30GB packages are a different story - I agree with you, the economics cannot be ignored at the end of the day, but that will come to an end shortly anyway. But for all the guys on 3gb accounts, put your money where your mouth is.

I also agree that IS should also aggressively price their ADSL, but at the end of the day they still have to buy international bandwidth from SAIX and cannot offer competition destroying products like 30gb accounts for R300.
 
somebody mentioned AeroSat - what flavour chocolate is it and where do i sign?
