Here's my situation - i want a 4mbps line but because of the distance between my home and the base station, i can only get 512kbps. I recently found out that Telkom are in the process of upgrading their ADSL network to ADSL2+. My question is this, will this allow me to get faster ADSL?
eg: 4mbps even though my distance is too far away?

No ;), AFAIK ADSL2 requires a distance even closer to perform at it's best. I may be wrong though.

Well if they're upgrading to ADSL2+ then theoretically they should be erecting more distribution boxes so that more people can have access to 2+.

that's what i wanted to know but i didn't bother phoning them cos they never answer the darn phones  . On their website u can only check if your exchange is DSL enabled. it woulda been useful if they had options to check how far away we are from the exchange and also what the maximum speed is that is supported based on our distance.

 Geez. What happened was I called Telkom one day and got lucky. I got through to a consultant who performed some synching tests and voila, my line could actually go at 4mbps. Problem was the Telkom never retested the speeds once they initially set up adsl a long time ago and hence only told me what the old system had registered, which was 384kbps.
