There was a whole guide on here somewhere that someone posted. Just search for it.. I will try to find it as well

Short story-torrents are crazy slow and frustrating.Newsgroups are the best based on direct downloads and encrypted traffic that your isp cannot restrict .they prioritize 443 port since they are used for banking sites.I just got my ADSl line after being with IBurst for 4 years.Still new to newsgroups. Will let you guys know how it goes.

Question

Lots of sites say that newservers files can only be downloaded a few days after it was posted? I am downloading something posted 3 years ago and it is 10.3% done so I am really confused.

Depends what server you are using. Paid servers generally have retention of up to 4 years (or sometimes more). The free servers that some ISPs provide have very short retentions of generally a few days.

Another thing to take into consideration is that content on these servers is susceptible to DMCA takedowns as the files are stored on central servers and not other peoples computers like with torrents.

Just signed up for the free 600GB from usenet-crawler and using SABNZB. Flippin amazing speeds. I have a 2mb line so the max download speed is 256kb/s and its currently maxing at this 210kb/s. I already downloaded 2 movies last night - about 4 GB in total. I initially signed up with Easy News but was not getting more than 110kb/s on port 119(non SSL)My one gripe is that you can only download a single file at a time with SABNZB, but i guess that will decrease the speed of the downloads.Goodbye torrents!!

Heheheh I feel the same way. It's just a shame that torrents are going to die out now.
