Everyone should no by now that telkom is dropping it prices in August but they are also going to cap all local traffic.

This sucks and this is what the UK Offers:

UK Online has also slashed the cost of its 8Mbps broadband service by £10 to £29.99 with a £50 connection fee and its 2Mbps service is down from £29.99 a month to £19.99 with a £25 set-up fee. The new prices will be extended to its existing customers.

UK Online has upped the ante in the broadband price war by introducing a 512Kbps service costing less than a tenner. The ISP's new service costs £9.99, which includes a free modem, plus a £25 connection fee. It has no monthly download limit.

Sweet :p

So when telkoms starts there little plan we need to say. sort out this **** or we will go off ADSL? (YES or NO)

Then what do u think we must do? I think complain to Telkom, if all of use do they must act if there is a 3rd Majority vote on this.

Telkom rapes us

That is bullsh*t, Telkom is just having there way with us and there is only one major phone company in SA. So we are stuck with telkom until another company moves in! I would love to have an european ADSL account right now!

hmm refering to international pricing is getting rather boring, its more fun to compare to ethiopian pricing/packages :)

Telkom would rather compare themselves to all the other providers in SA they keep claiming they're cheaper than.

bladebob and 2+3, welcome to myADSL. What you're saying is what almost everyone on this forum has been saying for years. I suggest that you search for debbie2's, MaD's and Peapod's posts over the past few months to see what people are doing about it. Of course also read rpm's press releases/articles/reports.
oh...and visit Hellkom.co.za and vent your frustration...

but they are comparing themselves pears to apples. They are the ONLY provider of the ADSL line, which, unlike any other country on the planet, THEY DOUBLE BILL FOR.
We pay for our telephone rental....and then we pay for our ADSL line rental.....which is the SAME BLOODY LINE ..... and then we pay for our ISP ADSL package......and then some of us pay for extra bandwidth........
It is outrageous.
In the UK I paid £29.99 3 years ago (it has come down radically since) for a 512 connection, always on, never capped. That was to BTOpenworld (ISP) I paid £8 odd for my line from BT.
This price tiering is what we have to attack vociferously and relentlessly.

Yeah that piece of scooby wire was paid for with the money made from the first call.

I have decided to vent my broadband frustrations on Telkomonopoly by applying for ADSL online - everyday...first one was this morning...

I know it's sort of useless & will just annoy Telkomonopoly in the Banana Province, but it feels somehow satisfying :D...especially since I've been waiting since March for something to happen with my original ADSL application - on Friday I called the monopoly again & found out that it was recently cancelled by themselves...no reason available...

An online ADSL application per day will...[fill in the blanks]

I phoned them on 0800 375 375 and according to the support person I spoke (He asked people that is working on the network) that local capping will never happen. (Due to competion with the wireless operators) - He assured me a couple of times of this. Now how can we get to the bottom of this?

bladebob, and what you going to get after you canncel your ADSL??? Patheticly slow and MyWireless with installation cost nearing R4000 or not-working at all (for most protocols) iBurst at ~R200 per GB? Or maybe GPRS at R500 per GB?

those prices, where does a gb cost you R200 for iburst? and what protocols dont work? they all work.

Uk online have there own dsl transmission network most isp's in the uk use the BT dsl exchange network thats why uk online are able to offer such high speeds and cheap prices. Word has it that cable here is gonna be upped to 10mbit later this year and BT is gonna start 8mbit on there exchange network sometime very soon.

Well apparently my HomeDSL192 order has actually

"passed the conformance test and a port has been allocated"
which I find odd since the order has yet to be "validated", and apparently someone called Sanjay will get in touch with me since I don't want to call 0313633993 & pay Telkomonopoly for the privilege...:D

How can one ust Telkom and Future in the same sentence? They have their back turned to it!

When you ride over something in your car you look backwards to see what it was.

This is telkom and we'll be here all century
