I think that Neotel will be able to compete with Telkom, not only on service but on cost as well. One should not underestimate the fibre infrastructure of Transtel & Eskom. They have very good national coverage with their fibre optic and can potentially host massive backbone links(being run like a government organisation they have just never utilised this potential). Looking at Neotel's website it seems that they might focus on wireless for the last mile access. With emergening technologies such as Wimax and current technologies such as 3G, the reach of these points can cover municipal areas with ease and at much lower cost than ADSL over copper. This coupled with their backbone can beat Telkom on price and performance if executed correctly. The other major concern that Telkom has is the Brain-drain of expert staff members to the opposition and other private ventures. They have worked hard on their customer service but have fallen behind on delivering actual infrastructure due to this. Neotel seems confident they they will reach these untapped markets, and it will be interesting to see in a couple of years how they have gone about delivering on their promise.

Well we're investigating NeoTel at the moment as an alternative. Our company is so fed up with Telkom and their BS that it may actually be worth it to pay a little more and receive better service.
In the last 6 months or so we've had around 46 faults which were reported to Telkom. Of those, 4 are still outstanding and around 20 have been closed by Telkom with no action taken and with no communication. The techie/call centre people just don't care

It took about a month after due to get our ethernet underway here where I work. And this is a huge international company Im talking about.
I say we should take a little more extremist action but methinks Im just going to get a bunch of nonsense thrown back at me about this statement.
I tell you if the IRA was in this country things would be a hell of a lot different
no nonsense...simply tell the guy in command that if things arent sorted out now your third in command will be shot..then second...then..ya lol.
Obviously I dont want that but holy shyte we are all a bunch of whiners sitting in front of our pcs doing nothing but moan moan moan...myself included. Sure now and then we have our protests but so far thats proven nothing but Telkoms power over us.
