How many forumites use Telkom as an ISP? That would be an interesting poll.

We may be forced to use their overpriced infrastructure, but I sure as hell am not going to give them that extra bit of business by allowing them to be my ISP.

My Telkom ADSL account: +/- R500 PM
My ISP account (Imaginet): +/- R1500 PM

We pay close to R1000 for business ADSL 512 per month, it could be lower, but what the hell, give or take a few hundred rand. I use telkom as my ISP for the simple fact that it's easier paying for the account that way, it gets billed on the telephone bill as everyone knows, if the posibilty was there to pay for another ISP on the telkom bill I would do it in a second. Debit orders suck and paying by credit card or EFT is just as big of a drag. It's worked well for the past year and a half :)

I have however bought an openweb account in the past, used it for a month and decided it's the same thing, and I'd be wasting my money doing that each month. Telkom has stagnated me to myadsl and the odd website here and there, I used to download like a mad man, but life changed :(

I'll start trusting Telkom when they are leniant on their capping issues... Maybe giving ppl a 10gig softcap internationally, and giving uncapped local again..

I think a "couple of hundred" rands are worth the 3 extra click to go to my online banking site and pay my ISP - or sign a debit order - just me...

Well I was a bit brief with that post, I have to take into account the 3 active telscum email accounts aswell. I won't save that much switching to another ISP, maybe 50 bucks and that's not worth the effort IMHO :)

I don't use them, but currently they are the only ones who have that strange system whereby people can squeeze vast amounts of data through over and above their official cap. And they're SAIX. So they actually give a pretty good - if highly unpredictable - deal.

I now use telscum. Dirty business tactics aside, as an ISP they are fine. I have not had 1 single problem and I get 10 gig a month on a 3 gig account.

It's a sad fact... Other ISP's in this country really can't compete with Telkom. Us ISP's sell the same product, only we're forced to impose the most rediculous and strict hard capping system.

That's why we're attempting to diversify and sell bandwidth on other networks, i.e. Verizon and IS.

Interesting fact though; all of our business clients would rather have us as thier ISP due to the fact that should thier web / email / internet fail they can phone us and get a strait answer, not the case with well informed MyADSL formites who don't need hand holding from thier ISP, rather just raw bandwidth.

anyone with a brain will go with TelkomInternet.

anyone with a heart that pumps custard will go with another non-Telkom ISP.

funny that they don't understand that when ever they support any SAIX (Telkom) ISP, they are supporting Telkom (SAIX) in the end.

Anyone why needs dedicated support from thier ISP will choose another ISP. We usually provide our clients with thier hosting, email and internet as well as their other support requirements. For them it's an easy choice, they can't afford to wait on the line for an hour with TelkomSA support when they're having internet hassels.

Apology not accepted,

This thread is about whether people should use TelkomSA as thier ISP and if so, how many people do.

I was simply correcting this senseless statement of yours!

And no I'm trying to advertise my ISP, I don't even sell accounts to MyADSL fromites generally, because too many of them are like you!

and it is about getting the most bandwidth, as well. you are the one who brought in other lame things like:

this is MyADSL, we want as much bandwidth as possible.. we don't care about your clients who want this and that. i'm sure if you had your own Forums for your own Clients, you would get a few people Registering that care about the crap you brought to the table that has nothing to do with getting as much bandwidth as possible.

senseless to you, and maybe to your customers especially, who aren't MyADSL'ers and who don't need as much bandwidth as we might need. like i say, we don't care about You as an ISP or what your Customers wants and needs are. this thread is about TelkomInternet who offers more than 3GB on their accounts, we care about as much bandwidth as possible.

when did i say you were advertising your ISP? ah, i see, you obviously admit your guilt - thank for that, nice and admirable of you :) i'm sure your Customers will give you mad respect. by the way, i hope they get you some Clover custard.. much better than Woolies :(

cutting tension with knife.

When I get ADSL (Hopefully next week), TelkomInternet 3GB and Prepaid WebAfrica 1GB Unshaped is going to be my ISP's simply because that is going to work fine for downloading, gaming and low usuage when i get capped on TelkomInternet

^ Thats pretty much the best idea right now for SAIX usage.

IS is great for local, might want one of those too.

And PostmanPot, the thread was actually just about how many people use Telkom ISP as their ISP, the poster made no mention of their ability to let you go over the 3 gig limit. but that is obviously the only reason why people would use them.
Carlhead actually seems to run a great ISP with good service. You seem to be a cock?

IUm shure youd be very worried if you are busy trying to suck up all that bandwidth you no doubt need to live and suddenly your internet dies and you are stuck with TelkomISP customer care on the other line. Especially if you host or anything like that.

:D no point in arguing with a fool, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience :p

Postmanpot:
I don't think that I need warrant your babble with a response, would be a waste of bandwidth :p

yes, you're right.. but, noone with a brain who uses MyADSL.co.za would select TelkomInternet as an ISP if it was customer care they were looking for. nor would they select it for hosting, knowing that the CC is poor.

we had our suspicions that you were an idiot, but thanks for opening your mouth - you just confirmed it :D

what a lame cliche that is.

you sound like our poor captain Smit...

no point in bringing useless crap to the table, for example: if someone was looking for Customer Care (what you brought to the table) that used MyADSL.co.za, they'd obviously not use TelkomInternet..

yes, agreed, so stick to your word and zip your yapper and in the future don't bring irrelevant crap to the table.

we already know Telkom has **** CC.. we only support them because we get a lot more bandwidth out of them!

Ok let me put my post out from a different perspective then, seems some people seem to battle with what I'm trying to say:

Yes it would be an interesting poll, and it would be nice if one of the Mods put it up for us.

IMO << Note that... there are 3 schools of thought both ON MYADSL and in the general ADSL populous.

1. That choose Telkom Internet becuase they give you the most bandwidth (note I never said "Value")

2. That don't use Telkom Internet simply because they would rather enrich one of their "competitors" in an attempt to improve the competition in the market. [As hopeless as that may seem]

3. That don't use Telkom Internet, because thier business rely's on it and would rather have reliable support rather than more GB's.

I think it would be interesting to see who fits into what category, and Postmanpot, just because they don't fit into the first one, doesn't mean they're "brainless", as you put it. It simply means thier perception of Value is different to yours.

Also, you probably shouldn't talk "on behalf" of the My ADSL users, because there are 8000+ of them with different opionions and the users include people like me who are propietors of ISP business, i.e. you are misrepresenting EVERYONE, and no one appreciates that.
