Something strange has happened to my connection to the outside world, and I cannot imagine what it is or how to get it sorted out.

A few weeks ago my ADSL line went down for the umpteenth time. When it did eventually come back up (after spending several hours on the phone to report and track the fault - but that's another story ) my connection speed was never quite what it was before (I am on a 512 line, used to get close to that frequently, now top out at around 300); and more worryingly, my connection seems intermittent. I would have gaps of anything from seconds to several minutes absolutely not a SINGLE bit moves from or to my PC. Mega 100WR router.

Configurationwise nothing has changed on my router, nothing has changed on my PC (have tried two PCs and two different account, but have the same problem. Both my accounts are with Telkom (as ISP). When I did eventually get somebody out here to look at the fault he poked around the connection wires a little and changed a plug (and seemed to think that would fix it all). Sadly I wasn't there at the time so couldn't stick the screwdriver where it belongs.

Needless to say the problem is still as bad as before.

Any suggestion? Puleeez - anything?

You say you have a Mega100WR. Go to the router's web page, log in, then click Status at the top, and then on the left, Modem Status. Paste the contents from there. For example:
Modem Status

Connection Status Connected
Us Rate (Kbps) 384
Ds Rate (Kbps) 4096
US Margin 15
DS Margin 20
Trained Modulation ADSL_G.dmt
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 11
US Line Attenuation 5
Peak Cell Rate 905 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 0
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Fast Path

Near End F5 Loop Back Count 0

Ah - thanks, I see what you mean.

It's been pretty much up to speed since yesterday. I still have some connection lapses but nothing like before.

Having this same problem, but with a Zyxel ... and on top of that my line will synch and loose synch every few seconds ... this use to happen during the night, so in the morn it was stable, but it seems recently the trend reversed itself ... looses synch in the morns and unstable at night (lost synch about three times while typing this out... and it night :(... so i dont know anymore) ... my stats

4meg line ...

noise margin upstream: 14 db
output power downstream: 6 db
attenuation upstream: 20 db

noise margin downstream: 13 db
output power upstream: 1 db
attenuation downstream: 36 db

need some advice badly here ... this line im getting real sick of ... had techs out ... they told me wet cable and nothing they can do about it

My home ASDL (with Mega100 modem) has not been working since Sunday. On Monday evening I spent 85 minutes holding on for assistance from the help line. Was told there was a problem with the line and they logged a queery. Got an immediate SMS and then one again on Tuesday night. This morning at 3 am my home alarm went off. The alarm was triggered by the phone line being disconnected ( I am paid up to date -actualy paid a month in advance!). The phone line came back on at 5am. I assume someone on nightshift was working on the line? Anyone had a similar problem and if yes was it easily resolved. I originaly had to wait 6 months to be connected last year as there was not enough lines/pods in my area (Fish Hoek).

I doubt it. As far as I know Telkom works daylight hours only (they claim it's not safe at night). Very suspicious if you ask me.

My connection has been better since the first. But nothing where it should be and I still frequently time out when trying to load content. Had a techie here and he claimed that the router wires were set up incorrectly - funny that, because it worked just fine for 6 months and his changes made no difference whatsoever. I am getting tired of their incompetence. Better take a Red Bull and re-re-re-re-re-re-report the problem...
