Hi there

I just bought Huawei E960 router from the Telkom store, was told that it will work with any sim card, but alas when I put my Vodacom prepaid sim card in.... Nothing. It sees that there is a gsm connection....but other than that it wont connect.

The sim card is 3g activated and has a 1.2g + bundle.

Does anyone know what settings I need to change or what I need to do?

Please any help will be appreciated

It should work. We did exactly the same thing - got an E960 cash and slapped in a Vodacom simcard.

Only thing I can think of, is that the simcard might have pin code request on. Take it off.

Worked fine with the same implementation.Did you install the drivers and the mobile partner software?

Yes, check the PIN settings on the router and also make sure what the APN is set to. Vodacom uses internet by default, I am not sure what Telkom uses. I assume the Vodacom SIM you are using is provisioned for data and does work in another device.

That would only apply if you were using it as a modem. Default would be to use it as a router and in that case you don't need to worry about drivers or software.

Chat to The_Librarian - he experimented with a Telkom device last week and was successful!

Hi guys.

Thanks for replies.

The sim card is about 5 years old and has been used for data when I used to tether my phone to my laptop.

As far as the pin code request goes, I know what the pin is and followed the instructions when it requested the pin, and the light went from red flashing to green. I will how ever turn the pin request off.

What must the APN be set to? just "internet" ? Are there any other settings that need to be made.... am so miffed this just never worked out the box....

Should just need to set APN to internet, that's generally it. Go have a dig in the Telkom forum as well. There is a thread on the E960 there as well.
