Telkom call rate increased by 18,544%

MyBroadband asked Telkom for comment about the large wholesale transit rate increase for UK Mobile Vodafone calls, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.

I wonder what companies Telkom is trying to scam with this runaway UK call rate increase, and why those companies aren't using VoIP.

As for Skype, I have not used that in years (about the time that Microsoft bought Skype).

What is this Facetime thing of which you speak? I have heard tell of Facetime before, is it used on Facebook, or the Dark Web?

I use skype for overseas calls - I get 100 free minutes (or something) through 365 so it's essentially free.

It's like a Telegram voice call, just with people on the other end to talk to ;)

We don't use commas in South Africa for thousands, we use commas to signify decimal places.

I looked at this and thought 18%, that's steep...
 
Skype is great for pre-transferring calls to a landline or cell, not sure if Whatsapp does that?

Could Telkom have made a mistake with their press release? Sounds insane.

Gets confusing with all the non-local websites too (and foreign forum s/w on local sites like this one), I stick to spaces with a decimal point incl. for any rands/cents.

I only use Office 365 with the licence that my employer provides, and nothing free has come my way.

It makes sense that Microsoft would have to sweeten the deal for personal Office 365 licencees.

But there's lots of confusion, here's an example from an argument with Microsoft;

For years though, we (South Africans and computer users?) have been using the "international" '.' decimal separator and ',' list separator. To suddenly find (be reminded) that the South African standard is a ',' decimal separator (in numbers and currency) is a bit of a shock. This has caused problems as a result of lazy program writing (e.g. bank statement downloads, and a lot of my own software!)

A space normally would have been better. I also read it as 18%.

But I think most systems in SA use a '.' as a decimal separated, even though it's probably not the official standard.
 
Telscum can make their prices anything they want. I'm never using their services again as long as I live. Got blacklisted by them due to their fault.
 
Will this actually affect many people? Also, typically, the heading makes it sound like ALL call rates were increased.

I assume you mean Vodafone UK is "Absolute scum of a company" for raising rates.

I've noticed that the rate to Portugal Mobile Vodafone is also higher than calling other Portuguese networks from all ZA networks (~R10 per minute) - which tells me this is a Vodafone issue.

I suspect the problem is Vodafone UK and that come 2022, all ZA networks will raise the cost to call Vodafone UK.
Telkom was just the first to pass on the bad news.

Solution use WhatsApp/VOIP/Signal/etc.

Where I have heard tell of this Facetime thing, is in fictional content produced by Hollywood.

I always thought Facetime was a term that Hollywood coined as a generic name for something Facebook invented (like Facebook Messenger), similar to the way that CNN was changed to ZNN (or whatever else) in various series/films.

I never expected Apple to be behind something with the word "Face" in its name, I wonder if Zuckerberg has ever contemplated suing Apple over this (since the USA's economy appears to be built on spurious litigation, first and foremost).
