Telkom calls off Cell C acquisition talks

Telkom has announced that it has terminated talks to acquire the full shareholding of Cell C from Oger Telecom.

How so? Telkom turns everything it touches to s**t and Cell C isn't at that level yet, so I don't see how Telkom botching up another well-run business would help consumers.

I can't speak for everyone, but Telkom Mobile is rather impressive for my needs.

Telkom Mobile is fantastic. Telkom's landline business isn't that good due to them having a monopoly in fixed lines.

At the moment CellC is only going after the lower end of the market, with tonnes of debt and barely any LTE coverage. Telkom would be able to fix all of those things, while providing decent competition for Vodacom since MTN isn't interested any more.

From the report it would appear that Telkom and their consultants cannot find the value that Cell C have attached to their business. i.e. the price was too high

Having this challenge too. I think the problem with Telkom Mobile is the ordering process. But once you have received the equipment you'll be good to go.

Telkom Mobile might be quite OK from a technical perspective, but how about customer service ?

In this province Telkom closed all except one of their 6 or 7 Direct stores, while Cell C expanded their number of stores from 2 to 7.
For porting your number to Telkom Mobile, you have to show up personally with proof of residence and ID in one of their Direct stores.

My experience with Telkom call centre, customer service has been mostly disappointing, the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing. If they reply at all

With Cell C it has been quite OK over the years.
