I received this notification from Telkom on one their 3 GB accounts, and the maths made me check again. But they did indeed cap me, as promised :(

Dear TelkomInternet subscriber,

Herewith a notification to inform you that your current usage reflects the following:

Username: [email protected]
Uploaded: 2.05GB
Downloaded: 2.74GB
Combined Total: 4.79GB

You have reached 80% of your monthly 3.00GB cap on both up- and downloaded traffic combined. Please note that you will be redirected to a throttled international service once you reached the cap limit. You have 259.89MB of bandwidth usage left before the constraint will apply.

To unsubscribe from this messaging service or view your online usage graphs, go to http://adsl.telkomsa.net

Thank you for choosing TelkomInternet, we value your dedicated support.

Regards,

TelkomInternet

Where the fsck did the 80% come from, cuz if they just counted d/loads, u get 91.3%...
Anyway, enjoy their fsck up:D

local vs internat.

It's probably 'cos some of that data was local. If im not mistaken you dont get capped or rather local stuff doesnt count to your cap data.

Only thing I can think of.. then lastly Don't tempt fate man! Just use the the big T word in vain and your modem migth busrt into flames and burn your houe down :D

Nope
Everything counts.
Incoming and Outgoing, Local and International.

No idea where the 80% comes from tho..
Must be the same maths that makes Telkom believe that ADSL Pricing in SA is reasonable.

hmm 'k my bad then. I'm new to the whole adsl thing, just thought I saw other posts claim you can still use local sites like normal after cap..

*edit*
k thnx guys, sooner or later I'll know the ins' and outs. Pft there is nothing to be said for Telkom's math or anything about them, 'cept of course that it sux.

You asked to be warned when you hit 80% of your cap.
Unfortunately, you hit 80 and 100% in one day, and got the warning on the same day.

You are disconnected automatically once a day, and only when you are disconnected do they calculate your usage.

Moan about the fact that teklom cannot actually give you an 80% warning, cos you can use up your entire cap in one-day, so it's not an accurate or useful feature.

But don't moan about the fact that you managed to use 4GB instead of 3GB because of the same problem.

Same problem here, but in my case they seemed to have used the downloads only to calculate:

Uploaded: 280.13MB
Downloaded: 1.60GB
Combined Total: 1.87GB

You have reached 80% of your monthly cap on both up- and downloaded
traffic combined. Please note that once you have reached your 2.00GB
cap, you will no longer be able to access the Internet on your ADSL
connection. You have 406.21MB of bandwidth usage left before this will
apply.
