I got a new line the other day (voice only) and want to get WebAfrica to attach an ADSL bundle, but they can't because "...there is a pending order open on your line with Telkom. This is currently preventing us from proceeding with your request. "

I tried phoning Telkom, when I enter the line number to the IVR system, it says "account suspended for non payment, goodbye" .. which is strange as they have my CC number and debit order details, and if I phone my new number it rings. So I did 0800-DSLDSL and they bounced me around to 3 incorrect departments and after an hour on hold they "escalated" it yesterday morning, but nothing has happened yet.

Anyone else ever have this problem and know how the hell I can resolve it?

Get the ADSL line through Telkom directly - IMO getting it at an ISP is not worth the additional trouble.

When I got ADSL about a year ago, the order stayed open for about 2 months after I had a working ADSL line. During this time I was unable to upgrade the line speed or make any other changes to the line, but I wasn't charged anything for it either. I tried calling them a few times, but they could not their systems to see that the ADSL is in fact already active. The status eventually changed after 2 months of waiting.

The reason I'm going through an ISP is (a) R100/month cheaper (with a bundle), and (b) I prefer phoning them for support when something goes wrong.

I'm specifically getting from an ISP because, in my extensive experience, it IS worth the additional trouble :)

Had this on my new line as well, basically the lady had to re-activate the account and it makes sense because probably it's recycled numbers which would have been suspended when they got cancelled by their previous owners. I was probably going to get a free ride if the line remained suspended lol :p . Rather choose to speak to a consultant at the IVR prompts and get them to activate it

That's exactly where I started my hour long, 3-wrong-departments trip around Telkom :)

I'll try again later, just can't bring myself to listen to those awful on-hold tones again for another hour.
