I have a friend who has a Telkom email address. She can receive emails fine but is unable to send.

When she tries to send she receives the error "Sender address rejected: not logged in."

I've checked her outgoing mail server and everything looks fine.

I've also tried logging into the online portal to send an email and it doesn't work.

Could it be an issue on Telkom's side? If not, any ideas?

Where is she trying to do it from? Home, Office, Mobile?

And who is the current ISP at the place where she is sending from?

She tried from home and it didn't work. I've got her laptop with me now and same thing.

Her ISP at home is Afrihost. They were with Mweb and it worked fine. Before that they were with Telkom I assume.

Could the outgoing mail server be blocked because her ISP isn't Telkom?

I have the same issue. I use Telkom and Afrihost as ISP's. If I am using Afrihost outgoing mail fails. I thus only send mail if on Telkom's network.

I tried setting up her account in my Outlook.

Incoming server tests fine but outgoing fails with the following error: "Send test e-mail message: The server responded: 553 5.7.1"

Blonde moment. Outgoing mail server has to be your current ISP :o

Tested on a Vodacom dongle and put Vdacom's outgoing mail server in, worked fine.

When I first had a look at her laptop she had Mweb's outgoing mail server (old ISP) so I put in Afrihost's outgoing server (new ISP) and I assume it will work when she connects from home.
