Telkom CEO to step down at end-2005

I personaly dont think the CEO of Telkom has much to do with the actual running of the company, A CEO looks at long term issues, like the SNO, licensing etc, the MD runs the actual business.

I think the will just elect a new figure head for the Company.

I wonder if hes gonna go work for the SNO.

Oh dear don't let that happen! With Steven White or Xasi Vapi being the CEO of Telscum and $izwe the CEO of Transtel...that's just bound to have the word 'RIP OFF' spread all over it.

$izwe knows melkhom's days are numbered. No more R11-Mill bonuses.

The captain jumping ship first.. says a lot about 'ol $izwe.

"It was his decision to leave," said a Telkom spokeswoman. "He feels he has achieved his goals and it is time to look at new challenges."

I think we should have a "$izwe's top ten new challenges" compo:

My challenge list for him to consider:
1.) Shoot fish in a barrel
2.) Learn the national anthem
3.) Manage to pick nose without getting snot on jacket
4.) Tie shoelaces
5.) Manage to get an ADSL line installed in under 3 months
6.) Tell the truth at least once an hour
7.) Get a conscience
8.) Successfully get through to a Telkom helpdesk agent in under 15 minutes
9.) Accomplish a task without a swarm of aides and whacks of government bribes
10.) Become a member of MyADSL :)

Personally I think he is doing the right thing.
I don’t know the fellow as he doesn't say much. He has achieved what a CEO should achieve and that is to make money. However the playing fields were hardly very level.
Perhaps a new attitude would change things for Telkom. They have a lot of repairing to do as far as their PR is concerned.
In my case, I would never forgive them for selling out SA for profit and my feet will do the talking when the time comes.

Mmmmm. Methinks he is moving over to SNO with political clout at extra charge... SNO must be thinking it needs cover for some reason. Who is Telkom CEO connected to? There must be a connection.

If so, Ant, he would be likely a shareholder then.

Perhaps the man cant take the pressure and bad publicity. Not getting job satisfaction etc. Maybe their is a real person inside that exterior.

Good riddence have a good life now and let someone who knows about telecomunication take over,"just hope its not his wife".

And to add to a previous statement that as CEO he doesnt really get involved with day to day issues, quite frankly is bull****.Look at the CEO of Pick'nPay,"Sean Summers",that guy knows how to run a company ,and he was voted best CEO by other CEOs,why u ask? because he was intouch of what was happening on the ground an launched many programmes to make things better,Remember the poision scare they had?He came straight out and said 'OK this is the situation im not blinding you as the public who come to our stores but this is what has happened........"
Now how more open as a CEO can u be as that???????
Thats who we need in Telkom now ,not some goverment appiontee......

I feel violated. This sums up exactly what kind of a person Sizwe is.

PS WickedWeasel : CEO and MD (Managing Director) is the same thing. CEO is an Amercan version of MD. You're probably thinking of the COO (Chief Operating Officer).

Not that I've ever met $izwe, but man, some of these comments are precious..

Maybe he will now head Sentech?

Not a bad move, with all the negative press Telkoms recieved recently thanks to this forum and ICasa finally wearing a BOX and going into battle, Telkom shares will drop, when that happens, to all the foreign investors, it will look like Sizwes a genius, and without him, Telkom is broke, he gets nice cushy new job elsewhere!
