Telkom Cutting Off Accounts

Telkom seems to be cutting accounts off if there are multiple login on a singal accounts.

Warning for anyone out there ? so I use it at home and work ? and Its my account so my bandwidth is getting used up of my CAP ? why should they cut this off.
 
cutting off, as in just the session? or as in terminating the account?
 
is it possiable for them to trace the 2nd dialup? to who is using the 2nd login session? like trace it back to the address where the 2nd session is?
 
Trace? <-- a joke right?

Whenever you log on with an account on your adsl, it gets logged on the radius server, house address/tel nr of the line/who owns the line everything. They just do a query to a (I assume a sql/db server) and have the details available immediatly if they want it.

Yes it is possible for Telkom/SAIX to trace it.
 
i think the problem with the multiple logins at the same time time thingy that ure talking about has something to do with the torrent okes:P

30 of them get together, and share their u/p`s, and every day they all change to the same account:P ... kinda aiming at uncapped bandwith:P

This is whole lot of .....

I pay R700 to download 3 GB at a MAX speed of 384 kb. Telkom tells me that I am only allowed to be downloading the allotted 3 GB via certain apps.
SO WHAT THE HELL IF I'M USING MY 3GB FROM 2 DIFFERENT PLACES!!!!
Im gonna get capped in any case!!!

Just to note. Im using a virtual Telkom ISP & I am logging on from 2 different locations at least 5 times a month. Have been doing so for the last 6 months & have never had problems with them cutting me off.
They better not try, cause then I'm gonna start throwing bricks at every telkom van i see.
 
Telkom sold me 4 simultanious connections with what was called "Prolog +".

I was not notified that this agreement has been changed in any way.

I'm using 1 connection for ADSL at the office, and the others for the road warriors needing dial-ups.

Works well. I do hope they are not going to kill this!

There are two types of records they keep, here's a snippet from records on one our our own lines this month. All ISP's that work VISP to SAIX can access this...

The port is you connection to the ATM network

The other, analogue and ISDN calls has your callerID is logged even if you restrict and don't send the number.

I haven't seen records from hotspot logon's yet, in fact I don't even know if the report would generate on the Telkom system as someone else is managing the things... don't remember who though...

I think the jist of it is that they cut off accounts if there are 2 simultaneous loging on one account, and if the account is not allowed to have more than 1 then its cut off.. from what i understand

I am assuming that you are talking about VISP's that do not run their own radius server (SAIX does allow this). If you run your own radius server, it's a little different (If memory serves me).
 
Ok its offical, Telkom will manual cut off any duplicate login on ADSL from now on.

This is a manual process so it might take about 1-2 weeks to do, but they are doing it. ! So guys watch this space, I would not be supprised to see the uncapped guys going bang or upping there prices ?
 
The thing is that telkom sold multiple connections to clients. When they brought the rj45 modems they set it up on both machines to dialup seperately.

They cannot just change without informing you.

Yes and No, you can buy concurrent connections from SAIX which the ISP needs to authenticate but their are still limits to how many accounts they have.

If I'm not mistaken Telkom Internet has their own authent system, and even their accounts seem accessable from the resports servers.
