Telkom dead line repair time rant

I got an SMS saying that my fault was restored... it still doesn't work. I escalated the fault.

Words can't describe my anger.... Telkom has now told me after 8 days that my line is only a voice line and that I don't have ADSL. I have wholesale ADSL through SAOL. How on earth can it take them 8 days before they realize that I only have a voice line on their system? I've had ADSL on this number for 3-4 years now.

Phone 10210 - You're call will be answered in approximately 10 minutes. 50 minutes later.... still on hold

Hi Folks,

I am in the 011-234 area and have no phone and DSL since Thursday last week. A telkom technician was here, restored the phone line (not DSL) and worked for day - dead again.

Calls to the 10210 are useless, cost you ages and eventually the call center lady just tells you, that the fault is tracked. That's it

Today I got this SMS as well, phone line up, no DSL. Meanwhile phone is dead again.

Does anybody know what has happened to the network? There must have been (and still is) a bigger outage for several areas.

Does anybody have a good contact (email or phone) at Telkom, that can be contacted? Regular Service and Support is useless.

Cheers,
Mark

Yesterday I was informed that my line had been cancelled. I did not request a cancellation, nor did my ISP and Telkom are as yet unable to tell us who did request the cancellation. Fact remains, the ADSL has been cancelled and I have been issued with a new order number to have it reconnected...

Can a mod please rename the title of the article to "A typical Telkom experience" so that it can serve as a warning to others?

The only condolence is that you're not alone guys, you're not alone...

Tree fell on my line. Time from tree down to complete repair of two phone lines including adsl was 48 hours.

My line is still down, 14 days and counting.
They repaired the telephone line 6 days ago.
They informed me that I only have a voice line 4 days ago- somebody cancelled my line and it wasn't me or my ISP.

Too good to be true. One of the lines died again yesterday

Welcome to Telkoms world , I have like 6 reference numbers and also got smses saying my line was restored , My adsl line has been down for 5 weeks now so I have given up with them and using 3g until they decide to fix it , I refuse to pay this months bill as well and spoke to accounts to sort out my line as its been off from the 3rd of January

had about 8 weeks no internet thanks to telkom.

Know the feeling.

In what area are you Cow?

Heh, Try our line being dead for the past 2 months!

Our line was dead since the 24th of November 2011, they randomly sent me an sms stating that the fault was resolved early January which was not the case since the line was still dead, on the 12th of Jan I had to log the same fault again, we got a dial tone on the 27th in combination with terrible noise on the line.

Our stats are as follows for downstream on a 4meg line

Data Rate (kbps) 1494
Noise Margin (dB) 4.5
Attenuation (dB) 45.8
Output power(dbm) 15.1

Even though there *is* a dial tone, the internet is unusable with no synch or intermittent connections.
I don't know what to do anymore. I have given up phoning their call centre since the people there are useless. Until this day they cannot tell me what exactly is wrong with our line and if they are still busy fixing it or if they are maybe laying new cables or what!

Absolutely revolted!

I'm in the Weltevreden park area in Johannesburg. Wow and I thought I was having crap!!!! look at your noise margin its unbelievably low. I found out the other day from my ISP that you can actually request a new port, so I have asked them to log with Telkom to change my port for my ADSL. hopefully this will get them to connect me up properly again as I think the problems I am having is just a bad connection done by the technician.

If I still have the same crap again I may even get them to install a whole new line, new number and everything and then get ADSL on that line. If it is working properly then I will cancel my previous line. It may be an option for you, If you still have constant problems.

My line has been down (dead as a dodo) for 8 days now. The cost of using 3G is starting to mount...

So my ISP tells me that its been escalated and that they are just waiting for a technician to be sent out to the unmanned exchange to connect the ADSL...

However I got hold of the supervisor of the wiring section for Centurion and he tells me a completely different story. My order is currently still with the commercial CPC department which means that it hasn't been sent to the technicians yet, which also means that there is no way that somebody could be on their way to the exchange to connect my line.

Somebody is spinning a lot of stories and I don't think that it is my ISP. I think the Telkom beast is just so bad that they head doesn't even know what the eyes are doing never mind the tail.

Long story short, I shouldn't get my hopes up that my line will be repaired today. So tomorrow I'm going on 13 days.

Fortunately for me, I'm paying telkom directly for adsl, so I hopefully won't have to go through that crap. (but that, of course, remains to be seen...)

My line has also been down since 31st Jan. Logged a fault on the 1st of Feb. Eventually got hold of somebody this morning and they said there was a fault at my exchange (Panorama, West Rand) and the technician will need to rebuild the whole exchange!?? Asked them how long it would take, she said not sure, I should phone back in a week or two.... WTF????

Maybe I should go find the exchange and help the bloody technician!

HAHAHAHAHA bud you on the same crappy exchange I am on!!!!! :D

We were told the same thing that the exchange had gone down and they were replacing it and it would take a while to sort out (It took 9 days). when our line did come up there was no fcking way it was a new exchange that it was plugged into, as the same faults and same crappy stats were still there. It was more like a wire came out and someone realised and "eish we need to put it back".

I think this is probably just a new excuse that they are using

phone the fckers every single day and annoy the hell out of them. That's what we did

Judging by the amount of posts/threads appearing what the hell are Telkom doing about their hardware? My connection was fine for 18 months but after the heavy rain 3/4 weeks ago I loose sync or my router stays synced without any data being moved and I've tried three different ISP accounts. I can't even really log a fault as their staff are so inept nothing would get done about it.

I just received the following email from my ISP:
Please see below telkom's response

I have received confirmation that it has been booked on a tech name .
The tech is still busy with another installation.
If he he cannot managed this afternoon then first thing tomorrow morning.
Thy Ops manager informed me that he has also conveyed this over to the end
customer xxx.

Sadly I am pessimistic and I judge the entire message by the last sentence. Since nobody from Telkom has phoned me to convey any message to me, I don't put any faith into the rest of the message.
