In the ICASA ADSL report it mentions that ICASA adopts the definition of broadband as having a transmit rate of 1.5 megabits per second (192kb/s) or higher. DSL 192 only has a transmit speed of 64kb/s or 0.5 megabits per second. Here goes another false adverstising claim to the ASA.

:/ DSL 192 is 192 Kilo bits not bytes . 8 bits make 1 byte. The transmission rate of DSL 192 is 64Kilobits or 0.0625 megabits(1024 kilo's in 1 mega).

its not 0.5 megabits, DSL 512 is 0.5, DSL 192 would be 0.1875 megabits. So not even DSL 1024 can really be considered broadband.

now im confused, souldnt your 0.0625 be megabytes per second? or 0.1875 megabits per second?

Eish darn I am tired. Needs more coffee and its bloody well way too hot. I am trying not to be an idiot.

Ok DSL 192 = 192 kilobits max in theory
= 192/8 = 24 kilobytes/s (The thing u see when downloading a file) in theory

similarly DSL 384 = 384 kilobits = 48 kilobytes per second

DSL 512 = 512 kilobits per second = 64 kilobytes per second

DSL 1024 = 1024 kilobits per second = 128 kilobytes per second.

But I must clarify that these speeds are the max theoretical speeds and u will never get the max speed maybe 80%-90% of the max theoretical speed.

the americans classify broadband as always on and able to transfer 256 killbits per second. Some were on this website there is a link. It differs from country to country.

Cool so none of Telkom's DSL offerings are broadband. LEKKER !!!!
/me wonders what teklom's response to that would be?

Well if ICASA says it isnt broadband then Telkom cant really argue,

But they will argue, ICASA will do nothing and Telkom will continue being what it is.

ICASA or ECASA what the %&*$ ever they want to call or not call themselves, are useless. End of story.

Remember they said transmition rate IE upload rate. The 192 package has a upload rate of 64 kilobits which=8 kilobytes/second theres 1024 kilobytes in 1 megabyte so if you do the math you end up with 0.0078125 megabytes / second :)

If we talking about download rate then multiply all the numbers by 3 except the amount of kilobytes in 1 megabyte
