What is Shaped bandwidth?~ In layman’s terms, the shaped service prioritises keystroke activities - things you do while sitting in-front of your PC. So when you’re surfing your favourite site, doing your banking or checking your e-mail, this option will work best for you.

What is Unshaped bandwidth?~ In layman’s terms, whichever activity you are doing or leaving your PC to do, while not there, all available bandwidth will be used for this application or protocol.

no wonder theres a few :confused::confused:'s outside

whoever wrote that is a complete idiot.

Relax folks? I think that explains it fine for the majority of people. Not everyone knows networking jargon, and that's probably the most obvious expanation? :/
From what I know, what shaping does is either prioritize certain ports, protocols, or IP's/users so that certain applications get priority, or speeds can be throttled/controlled.

It basically explains that the one prioritises things you're doing... And the other one prioritises things you're doing and not doing. Yeah... explains it perfectly... *kicks Telkom inna goolies*

How 'bout this for layman's terms:

unshaped: "fast"
shaped: not so "fast"

Nonono... it would have been perfectly simple for Hellskommel to explain this:

Shaped: Although we charge you for bandwidth, we regulate what you can do with it. Activities such as email are given a higher priority and are thus faster while anything fun, educational or game-related is given a low priority.

Unshaped: We charge you for bandwidth and simply let you eat away your cap as fast as you like with any application you like.
