Hi guys,

The Short version :

Can you use a telkom email account(still being paid for) to full capacity if you use a different ISP?

The scenario is as follows:

My father inlaw had a package from Telkom giving him basic internet access, capped at 5 gigs(and other benefits, one of which is an email account-has been using this account for everything so far, friends and family correspond on there)
It worked fine for awhile(the internet) then it started giving connectivity probs.
We used a test account which worked fine,so i just got him an uncapped package out of my wallet,he is however still paying for the Telkom account(package)

He said he was able to receive and send emails when the Telkom account was in use,but since the change over,he can no longer send emails?
When phoning Telkom.they said it was because he changed ISP's

I havnt had a chance to go there yet,was hoping for some solutions first to this "problem"
I did a search, found some settings, but will it work if he isnt using Telkom as his ISP

Thanks

Yes. Find out what the other ISP's SMTP aka outgoing email server is and use that. Or use smtp.saix.net to test, should work.

or just use telkom smtp server if it supports authentication, in theory you would still be able to relay even though you are on other ISP network.
