I bought a prepaid sim from the Telkom in Rosebank. The guys hadn’t been trained by that time but the process is easy. They give you a free card with a QR code. You scan it and you follow the prompts. It was uneventful and easy.Has anyone managed to purchase and activate a Telkom Esim yet?
If so, where did you get it and what was the process like to activate, do a sim swap from plastic sim etc
They need to perform a SIM swap, from the physical SIM to the eSIM.Anyone tried with or know if this will work for a data contract sim onto your phone?
Made a turn at a Telkom branch, they seemed confused and then told me that I’ll loose the number of the sim in my phone![]()

Can you receive incoming calls on the esim?
(Or does it behave like the rain data sim)
If so can you load airtime on it?
At the store they say it isn't supported, but got a prepaid SIM and it worked for me (Galaxy Watch 3 LTE). Had to use the instructions from some reddit post to be allowed to directly scan the QR code though. Is it supported for wearable?
Open the Galaxy Wearable app
Tap the three bar menu in upper left corner
Tap "About Galaxy Wearable"
Tap the page heading "Galaxy Wearable" five times quickly to bring up the hidden menu
Tap "Test ESIM Feature"
Tap "Current QR TestMode: off. This will turn it on
Back out to main Galaxy Wearable screen and tap "Watch settings"
Tap "Mobile Plans". This will bring up the QR code scanner
Aha, that's great news! I've been on the hunt for local eSim on my GW for a long while now, but MTN has always given me grief. I currently have a Dent plan, and while data works well, it cant make any calls. Can you make (standalone) calls on the Telkom eSim?At the store they say it isn't supported, but got a prepaid SIM and it worked for me (Galaxy Watch 3 LTE). I can. Can send and receive SMSes and make phone calls entirely independently, as well as do things like go through USSD menus to buy Telkom bundles etc. The downside is that you won't be receiving any calls on that number when your Watch can in any way avoid it (i.e. if it's within Bluetooth range to your phone or on a friendly WiFi network) as it will turn off the cell modem to save power.Aha, that's great news!
