Hey

I am in the process of getting adsl at home. First step is to get the voice line.
Just been to Telkom for the normal line of R166.50

The lady at telkom said I should rather opt for the Evening and Weekend plan for R206 and the downgrade after three months back to the R166.50 line rental. Reason is to avoid the R600 installation cost if I opt for the normal R166 line.

I am not going to use the telephone line for calls etc.

It just to get adsl. (self install)

Is this correct that she said?

That is what I opted for a long time ago. But I didn't downgrade. I do have some family that only have landlines and I use it every now and then. Just remember the call is only free if it is under an hour. Put it down and dial again.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Just make sure you get a actual copy of the T&C's that stipulate you can downgrade after 3 months and not after 12/24/never.

That said, why not rather go for one of the Simple promo's that include voice, adsl, a cordless phone, router and a Telkom internet account? http://www.telkom.co.za/campaigns/simple-3/. No contract.

He can downgrade if he is on month to month. So it should not be a problem.

I just did one of the simple promos applied on Monday was installed this morning :D

have you looked into alternatives?

i have been with telkom now for little over 3 months.
I have had a little over a months uptime in total.

Stay away. look into wireless solutions in your area, bit more expensive but much much more reliable and stable. and no cables to be stolen...

Morning

I applied for the Closer 1 yesterday afternoon. R180 p/month

Free installation and line moving when I move to a different house.

Is it better to get the adsl line straight from Telkom or to do the bundle thing from Mweb / Openweb etc. so that they manage the adsl line?

Also recommendations for a good modem with WiFi?

I am now part of the "How long to wait for Telkom" clan. Hope it's not too long a wait.

Peace

You should have just signed up for the simple plan. I keep my line telkom, will never again have it with an isp.
