Telkom has evolved past the internet age!!!

I applied for 512k ADSL and Telskum lets me know that I cannot get ADSL. I am in the middle of Pretoria, my exchange supports ADSL and I can throw a rock from my house to the exchange, but I cannot get ADSL. Why? Because the connection from the exchange to my complex is too new to support ADSL. Some amazing new technology called UCM or some or other 3 letter abbrevation that does not support ADSL.

I urgently need an internet connection with no cap and static IP's to open my new offices. (Would have used IS.) I have even considdered vSat, but it is capped and no static IP.

My last idea is to buy a flat (drastic measures!) within line of sight (I live on a hill) and get ADSL there with a wireless link to the house. Maybe rent the flat out with permanent internet.

Any better ideas?

I did originally do the application through GamCo, but after the order was sent to Telkom they contacted me directly.

Telkom changes their story daily. In the beginning they said it uses optic fibre, but after loads of calls and complaints Telkom called me to explain the problem, and spoke of something like UCM which is used to compress 100 phone lines onto a single physical line (if it makes sense).

ettienne12, do exactly that. Pay for DSL at some property that you can get it at, and Wifi it to your premises.
