I stay in the East, and for some reason when I got home yesterday afternoon I couldn't connect to ANY sites. I was connected to the internet, but when trying to open Google it took in excess of 6 minutes. I did a ping to Google and got 20ms response times, but it wasn't very stable I lost every second packet.

I phoned Telkom and asked them to investigate - all I got was there are network problems and someone will look at it. I had a lot of work to do and was unable to - who is going to reimburse me for the loss of income? Telkom? I don't think so. Can I pay them less for the service interruption? NO!

Four hours later nothing had changed so I left it and have not checked again. I will have a look when I get home this afternoon...

Anyone else facing problems yesterday?

reset your router to factory defualts, then do the login information again...

I live in Benoni and experienced exactly the same thing. It happened last week Tuesday as well. My ADSL account syncs and all but it just won't load any webpages. Tracerts and pings are average but it still times out. I wonder if this doesn't have anything to do with an overloading of the exchange.

I am fed up with these problems that crop up every week.

The Network is down = Technicians are working on it, log a fault and get a number then claim the down time off your invoice - The main problem seems to be at the boksburg central exchange.

I do get that once in a while - maybe once a week in the last three weeks. ususally fiddling with the settings on the router helps a bit - one occasion the router had totally wrong DNS assigned to it.

Let's hope that it is the exchange being upgraded, then I will stop complaining! ;)

And no, networks don't just go down. Something needs to have changed in order to bring it down. Especially if it affects more than one person so I won't just accept it. Telkom's ignorance when it comes to change control and effective testing should not be my problem - thank you for your o so valuable input anyway.
