Hi Guys,

I have a 20mb Fibre Line.

I had a Huawei router and had all sorts of issues with it, so Telkom replaced it with a Netgear VDSL router.

Everything works fine, and is speedy.

Except games.

I get about 20-40 minute play time on the ps4 (BF4 and Neverwinter) before it kicks me out of the game. What's strange is that the party chat with friends remains unhindered?

It also doesn't affect Netflix running on a seperate device in the background. In fact, Netflix streams all the way through.

Tried WoW on PC - same thing. Beautiful connection, then between 20-40 minutes just get kicked off.

It's driving me up the wall. I phoned Telkom, they changed the ports for me, but I have the same problem.

Any advice?

It was my router and mine was dropping steam after 5 min all the time.

I also encountered that with my Netgear VDSL router, using my own router I don't have this problem.

DieKriege, this is going to sound strange, but set the router to DMZ mode and test afterwards. If you can't find the DMZ setting (I think it's under WAN settings if I'm not mistaken) send me a pm and I'll help you out.

I know running in DMZ mode isn't appropriate but just test and see if that makes a difference to your situation and report back :)

They replaced the Netgear with a Aztech 700
Kark one but it does the job.

Hi There,

A friend helped me set up a dmz for the PS4's sake. That solved a different issue I had, but it still loses connection... :(

****SOLUTION******** (Hopefully for everyone else too)

Oooh wow - so I phoned Telkom and logged a fault.

And they phoned me back and asked if the installers on the new Netgear router switched QoS (quality of service) ON in the router settings.

They didn't.

One little tickbox.

Didn't get one dropped connection last night! Seems fixed!

Interesting, glad you got it fixed :)
