Hi Guys,

I have a question that not even telkom can answer (thought i am getting the idea they can, but will not answer).

We have a client that had telkom lay a fibre link aspecially for them. Currently the line is only being used for VoIP.

My question, can that fibre link be used to carry traffic from another ISP to the clients premises. More precisely, we want to carry wholesale bandwidth like Neotel or any other suitable ISP to resell via wireless infrastructure.

Also, does anyone have an idea of the cost for 100mbps dedicated bandwidth from telkom/neotel/other isp's?

Thanks

I recall reading something a while back that the network will be "open access", I'm pretty sure I read that here, however I can't remember where, I think it was regarding all the FTTH developments in the suburbs, or regarding the Telkom FTTH launch on Dec 1

Unless you signed a contract for the data, you should be able to swap ISPs. The line contract no, you have to keep that with Telkom.

You'd need to look at the contract first to determine what is being provided by Telkom and for what period.

In essence, you can get the line "rental" moved to another ISP and get the data from another ISP also.
As far as costs go, you would need to contact them directly. Many factors come into play, biggest of which is contention ratio... I know CyberSmart does a 100mbps fibre for R12000, but there are T's & C's and it's only within certain area's.

In a nutshell yes.

It depends on what service you have. Seeing as you mentioned it is currently only used for voice, this is most likely a Metro Ethernet from Telkom. This is NOT shared infrastructure, and you will only be able to get Telkom to provide bandwidth on it, or a reseller of Telkom. The reason you can not get a answer whether this is possible is not, is because you require a custom solution, the average Jo salesman at Telkom does not have the info to provide you with these answers, you will need to speak to a solution architect that is assigned to the client.

As for the pricing, this is greatly dependent on the contention ratio you want, 1:10, 1:4 or 1:1. It is not going to be cheap as this is business/enterprise grade bandwidth/leased lines, with contractual guarantees and SLA's. It can range from 20k to 150k p/m for a 100mbit connection.

*Edit

Neotel has pricing on their site https://www.neotel.co.za/wps/portal/neotel/SmallMediumBusiness/Internet/NeoBroadbandFibre/!ut/p/a1/hY5LC4JAFIV_iwu3zhWftZukMi0UDNLZxBg2GpMjoyn06zNpFT3u7hy-j3MRQSkiNe0rRrtK1JQ_M7GPcQymv1lD6HozC7AHyz12At2N7RHIRgC-HIZ__gGRCTEjz_QXCYTg7EYvMSyIVoEBuv4CfkwEiDAu8undDNe54TJEZHEuZCG1mxzrsuuadq6CCsMwaEwIxgvtJLQ7VeGTVIq2Q-k7i5prCheL91usKA_27Y9I/dl5/d5/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS80SmlFL1o2X1BQMDRISUcwSzhDOTUwQUMwRVRBN0oxTzI0/

Other providers, depend on the area that you want the service. There is a lot of smaller comapanies nation wide providing their own fibre products. Dark fibre africa is a option as well but VERY pricey.
